Who does it help by banning someone because they aren't good yet? Everyone has a learning curve and banning someone mid swing could cause them to quit the game entirely. It seems to only cause team anger because a support takes one minion from the wrong adc, then it all starts to spiral out of control.

It's also a placebo type thing. It makes ragers less angry.

Thing is, MMR is important to climbing.
IcyPepper1 votesI think it's very minor, and would require substantial reports for it to actually lower someone's mmr.
And if they're getting that many reports, at least way above average, they might not actually be climbing in the first place... sometimes you need less skilled opponents in order to learn how to play, you can't just start with the highest difficulty (like learning algebra before calculus).
But people who get reported for being unskilled excessively aren't usually winning all the time and climbing.
ElJanitorFrank2 votesYeah, but the lower your MMR, the less skilled players you face. If you truly do deserve to be in a lower MMR, it will help you out. If you don't, and are just playing badly a few games, then your next opponents will be easier to face and it will only help you.
4th Chiming Lamb1 votesThey don't get punished by it, reporting someone as Unskilled just lowers their MMR a bit. I used to get tons of people saying to report me unskilled. Five matches (or so) later I got a Godlike and camped a Yasuo asking what his W did, and ten matches (or so) after that I was around back to where I was before, doing a lot better than 2/13/1
Eleshakai1 votesJust to clarify... unskilled reports, if received frequently, will slightly reduce your normal mmr. It has no impact whatsoever on ranked.
