Let's solve the mysteries of MMR!!!

Okay, I've been playing league for over a year now. One thing that has continued to confuse me is how MMR works. I have done research on this by reading many forums and other people's questions. I have yet to have a solid explanation of how this mysterious thing works. Many people have answered this by saying, "I think normals affect MMR", or "you have to win 10 in a row to stop gaining only 5lp per win." I wanna know everything about how this works and I think riot should have at least a page explaining every aspect of it. Explaining duo queue, in game performance, dodging a series to stay where you are at and raise MMR. How does this work. I want facts not guesses and I'm sure thousands of others want this as well. Help solve the mystery!

Edit: I really want to know if you should dodge a series to raise MMR..

I second this.

I really think it should be a number we can see and would love to know how it is increased when you Q with others.

But if Riot were to release the information, we would know what to do. That would make too much sense!

But no, joking aside, I wonder if Riot keeps it a secret so only a /few/ people exploit the system. I really don't know the reasoning, but it would be very nice to know.

Riot could always just show you what your mmr is, then there would be no need for guessing. It would do no harm for them to allow you to view your mmr value.

The facts are all out there. The problem is that various myths have cropped up (like in-game performance having an effect) and now you don't know what's true anymore unless you were around for the Elo system (and noted all the times Riot talked about changes to it).

In ranked?

You win a game, you gain LP. You lose a game, you lose LP.

Are you blue side? You win a little less MMR, and lose a little more MMR. Are you purple side? You win a little more MMR, and lose a little less MMR.

Thats. It. Not a complicated system in the slightest. Streaks do not matter.
