Looking for a coach, someone who knows more than me, so... pretty much anyone.
Disclaimer: I've never posted to the boards before, so if there's some kind of subculture here then I don't know it, and if this is the wrong category for this topic then let me know.
Alright, I found League when some people I played a _different _ game with encouraged me to make an account, played a few games with me, then left me high and dry. Well, now I'm pretty into it, I somehow stumbled my way to level 21, and have well passed what I understand to be the threshold from bot games to PvP. But I suck at PvP, to a point of absurdity. I'm certain a 9-year-old would have picked up on more than me by now, and I've had this account for upwards of a year (albeit not continuous play).
I'm not completely incompetent. I understand on a somewhat intuitive level that if you push a lane hard the jungler's gonna gank you, so set up some wards and watch your ass, and double back and squat on your tower if enemies are missing, and if you've got a tank or a high damage poker as a lane opponent even your tower's not always a safe spot. All these bad habits people talk about picking up from bot games aren't really what's messing me up; I know these guys are real players, and I always ask myself "What would I do if I were them? Where am I weak? How will they kick my ass?" And I know what they ought to do. Then they do it. And I die. I see it coming but I can't think on my feet quick enough to get out of it. Meanwhile, my teammates are raging.
I grasp that you use different items to build the same champion differently depending on the situation, but I don't KNOW what items create these effects, I can't read situations well, and I can't even wrap my head around what champions are better against opposing champions, or the best lanes for them. There are some fundamentals I'm seriously lacking, and I know a lot of it is studying the champions and studying the items, but at a certain point all this research stops being worth the effort because I'm not having fun.
The champ I know the best is Sivir, and I'm comfortable with her. I grasp that this might be part of my problem, though I will and do step out of my comfort zone and try other champions, they're just missing something. I watch the championships to try to pick up on this stuff, how Sivir is played and when, but it mostly just goes way over my head. The Championships just look like chaos to me.
I'm looking for someone with a little patience, and some interest in helping a fellow player really get started. I have a lot of questions about everything and no one to ask. If anyone's willing to play a game with me (preferably 1v1 or a custom game to avoid pissing off normal players) and coach me a little, I would love them forever and they'd get a new friend, if they're looking for one. Basically like a training session, if that doesn't sound completely stupid. "You bought that item but look here, I already have this. Because I'm built this way, you'll want to do something that can keep up or else I'll nail you." I don't know, something like that. Just a hands-on learning thing.
I don't care how old you are. I'm 23 and female, if that means anything. If some thirteen-year-old kid pops up with superior knowledge and a little empathy, I'm not hung up on age difference. (I mean, unless your mom is, in which case maybe don't message me 'cause I'm old as hell.)
Thanks either way. ♥
