Toxic reporting

I'm reeeaaally pissed off about this. So, I'm going to calmly make a board discussion :)

How do our game designers expect a reporting system to function properly within a toxic community? Isn't it a bit of a catch22, loophole, mobius strip argument?

Correct me if I am wrong... We do have a toxic community? right? It's very, very bad.

So, tell me this, why the hell would you give the power of reporting (something that get's you chat-banned and ranked-banned SIMULTANEOUSLY --- WITHOUT review from a higher governing body power) to that toxic community?

Can you see the problem?

Toxic people get reported by normal people ... that is the ideal

But, what happens... Normal people come to play. Toxic people come to play. Toxic people rage. Normal people get upset. Toxic people report normal people. THE COMMUNITY GETS MORE TOXIC.

Either remove the automatic punishment completely, or employ a department to sift through the multitudes of reports.

I've been (as mentioned) simultaneously chat banned and ranked banned (not that I care about ranked since the toxicity is 1000 times worse there) ... you want to know why?

I actually explain to toxic players what they are doing wrong. I don't swear. I don't caps type. I tell them that it's not okay to be angry. But, I can't even do that since I am chat banned.

This system does not work.

Number 1 element to fix RIOT. The reporting system is creating the toxic community. Not fixing it.

I completely agree. Riot has lost all concept of proper punishment for what they LOOSELY clarify as bad behavior. I can PROVE right now without any doubt that their system doesn't work- are there still NUMEROUS AFKs and people with horrible attitudes? YES, yes there are, and they are growing and replicating like a virus. Putting punishment in the hands of an angry mob is a horrible thing to do (yes, the community for the most pat is an angry mob). LoL is losing people to HotS like mad, and I believe most of it is due to community attitude and being unable to police it, as well as AFK issues that have gone unresolved for YEARS!! Riot has NEVER been able to give any kind of answer that works for their problems (but Blizzard listened to the community and they have fixes-maybe you should learn Riot).

I don't care whether the reporting system stays or not, my days with this game are numbered. I stopped playing Rift due to attitude problems and only come on for the occasional ARAM game, since if there is an afk or negative attitudes (usually), I only got to listen for about 20 minutes in aram instead of 40 in a Rift game. Remove reporting or keep it, I don't care, just remember, no matter what stats you can bring to a presentation, what numbers look like on a spreadsheet, they will never reflect the true attitude of the community. So while Lyte believes and can show on paper where it might work here and there, if you come to the boards, you'll see thousands of examples where it doesn't work.
