This is one of the first console beat em up games and my second played coop game (first being Secret of Mana for the SNES) Grew up playing so many fighting or coin-op games in the arcades and consoles, almost all fighting games have seen a port to home consoles but they were mostly inferior ports compared to the original arcade with only a few of the ports still being played on retro consoles to this day like street fighter 2.

My friend introduced me to this game as a kid and we used to play as Blaze and Axel together all the time. Stealing your friend's chicken, apple or extra lives is the earliest form of coop trolling your friends.

We never got passed the boat stage either we sucked at the game or we didn't have the time to beat it.

Fast forward to 2008 I already had the whole SOR trilogy on Sega Genesis (aka Megadrive in my country) also had these games on Wii Virtual Console.

Me and my friend at the time were still young and working on part time jobs at the time whenever we had the time we would play a bunch of fighting games. In coop we've beaten contra, streets of rage trilogy, final fight, secret of mana, metal slug from beginning to end when we had free time.

As time went on we've moved homes and rarely see each other, then in 2012 sega released tons of retro classic compilations to xbox live and playstation network and we would play the hell out of all of those games that came out at that time and of course we played all 3 streets of rage games online together though with Streets of Rage 3 we played it on the japanesse difficulty because of the extremely long and boring boss battles.

I have beaten this game like way before 2008 on my own as a young teen. The music composed by Yuzo Koshiro with grime, techno, 80s and 90s style music is amazing and he is very well known on other games to.

Playing this game with my best friend was a freaking blast, it was so satisfying to destroy so many criminals, crime syndicates, ninjas, robots etc with your buddy having your back every step of the way.

There was coop moves you could do that was really freaking awesome to pull off if both of you know how to do them.... Just dont throw your partner into danger or death pits like I did alot.

What are your memories of playing this game? did you have a good time with your friends and family on this series or was you cussing at each other like as if your playing Mario Party or something?

"Omg you took my chicken and my 1-up!?! I only have 1 life, little hp left and no continues > : ( "

Response: (turns to the salty player and smiles)
