My personal thoughts on ping
Personally, I don't like the general idea of ping, and while there's nothing I can do to change anything about it; it's just how the internet is.
In my opinion, ping is something that somewhat plagues the community; it's something that can be changed, yes, but only for everybody. Framerate, however, is something that is more personalized. It can be changed, but only for the individual (computer specs).
Most of you know that Riot is making a server location switch, switching from Portland, OR to Chicago, IL. This is causing some changes to the ping distribution for the community; East-Coast gets a better ping, and the West-Coast gets a worse ping.
I'm from the west-coast, and I don't necessarily mind the ping distribution changes, but in my opinion ping is something that gets in the way. I prefer to have my ping low (~20 ms) but that's only because I don't like having a number get in my way. I understand having ping in the triple-digits can drastically affect gameplay, and that's why I prefer to have my ping lower. It just, well, gets in the way and causes disagreement between the two sides of the NA region. If you are an avid forum-browser/poster, you've probably noticed the high amounts of toxicity from both sides of the NA regions. The east-coast is enjoying the west-coast tears, and the west-coasters aren't particularly happy, which I completely understand. Most of the west-coasters are used to having lower ping, and we prefer it that way because, well, it gets in the way. I'm not saying that east-coasters deserve to have higher ping, no, and in fact, I'm happy that they're getting a lower ping, but arguing about it isn't a way to solve an issue. Riot is trying their absolute best to get everybody in the NA region to have a relatively equal ping (below 80 ms) and what's upsetting is that everybody is taking it for granted.
My message to you west-coasters, don't complain about higher ping, it'll be alright. And for you, east-coasters, don't take advantage of the west-coaster's higher ping. Don't make fun of them for it; you were all in the same situation before. Vengeance isn't the way to solve the quarreling.
