Tell me about your team!

Hey guys, I’m randomnewguy, and I work on the Marketing team at Riot. We just wrapped up the regular season of Riot Rumble here, which got me thinking about how playing League with my coworkers has improved my play. For those of you that don’t know, Riot Rumble is a company-wide tournament where we can take a break from work, get to know each other, and have some fun playing League (victory tastes so much sweeter when it's over your co-workers).

Now, I wasn’t the most hardcore League player before I joined Riot. I basically played Ashe from tutorials through level 30; I didn’t branch out and try new champs because I was afraid to fail in front of my (much more experienced) fellow Rioters. So I was terrified when I was asked by some coworkers to join their Rumble team as their Marksman.

I’d have to learn new champs and quickly level up my play in order to compete. Fortunately, I wasn’t on my own. I had four teammates in my corner encouraging me - giving me tips, sending me tutorials, and supporting me in practice games. After playing with these guys for the past few months I’ve grown dramatically as a player, learned three new champs (Caitlyn, Jinx, and Graves), and even carried my team in a few games. Most importantly, I’ve had a ton of fun getting to know my coworkers on a personal level -- so much so that we are planning on entering ranked together.

So how about you? I'd love to hear your stories about the friends you play with, whether you're the one leading the pack or whether you rely on them to help you level up.

Back when I first started, all my League friends were the RL friends who got me hooked. We would get to gether, often in the same location with a couple other people from home or other parts of campus with enough for 5v5 customs, and we had Monday Night ARAMs

Since then, I've started playing with people I've met randomly in game or people I got to know in the old forums. Amusing thing, is that one group I play with, most of us prefer support, so our pregame organization involved figuring out who gets Sona/Nami/Braum for that game rather than the high damage FoM champions.

Last year I used to have my buddies whom I played with CONSTANTLY in a full group. This team may be no more at the moment but...It was great team of silly dorky friends. We didn't care much about what roles we played. Sometimes...

I met 1 from another friend who she met on another game. He is still my friend till this day even if they aren't friends anymore. He prefers Top or Jungle. Sometimes Support. Hates arams. Get easily mad or frustrated. I have patience.

The other one who would mostly play mid or occasionally top is my first online friend ever. I met him in a AI game where he called mid after I did but hey its a bot game so we both went mid. He threw me a whole bunch silly faces/emoticons in the chat and in the end of that game we became instant friends. I would talk to him a lot in Skype. LOVES to play the piano in it too. He likes all game modes. Have not seen him much this year due to school.

The 3rd dude I met also in another AI game in late 2013. He prefers Mid or Jungle or Teemo any lane. I was trying out Riven for the first time when I noticed a Heimerdinger camping at the enemy base. He got several pentas. I know its stupid but I was still new to the game and I was in a little depressing mood. I cheered on him! I thought it was the funniest thing ever. After that game I added him. Didn't play with him much for the first 2 months that I added him. Herd his voice for the first time in Skype (He was munching on food) and from then on I dragged him to play with me. We still occasionally play (His time is different from mine so its kinda hard). He doesn't care what mode we play.

Then I met a Lee Sin in an Aram game where I was playing Karma. I was being super silly and /ALL chat "Please be gentle with Lee Sin! He's my blind boyfriend!" (I thought Karma & Lee Sin were dating). That Lee Sin went with it and throughout the game he also became my friend on Skype too. He doesn't really like playing with anyone for Summoner's Rift. But he is my go to Aram buddy! (Thought I'd add him here cause he's awesome like that)

The last person was a girl (The 1st girl I met that wasn't mean like the ones I've met. Miracles do happen! I had bad luck.) She was the sweetest thing ever. I met her in a normal Summoner's Rift. I was her Support and she was playing Tristana. We were also playing with the 1st guy I mentioned and the 2nd one. Anyway, I think she was doing good but one of my friends started being toxic to her. I was so mad and in the end we won. I added that Tristana player. I just kinda randomly dragged her to play with me. Then I added her Skype and we are still chatting up a storm till this day. She can do all lanes! And yeah that toxic friend ended up apologizing to her.

We are mostly casual players. I am happy with them. They are my first group of online friends and I cherish them. Right now I mostly play with 3 of them. The others are busy with their schedules now but I would sometimes run into them and we would play a game or two.

I thank LoL for these great friends. (I plan to visit a few of em someday) I'M SORRY FOR THE BLOCK OF TEXT!!!

Can confirm. I had the honor of being Randomnewguy's Support in all of our games, and his Caitlyn is EPIC!

My team consists solely of Me, Myself, and I, and they all suck. :/

Well, I found my team on the boards. They were looking for a jungler around silver/gold who played some support-y champions, with particular encouragement for players who followed the competitive scene. As a long-time jungler and diehard TSM fan, I figured I fit the bill pretty well.

It was a step outside my usual bots/aram shell, but the guys are funny as heck, and I can sling a joke, so we meshed well, and I really enjoy playing with them. It's nice having a group that sets up your games for you, you know? Plus, I know what they can play, so I only have to adapt to the enemy on the fly.

I have a pretty good grasp on many jungle champs, but I've picked up vi, reksai, nid and sej since joining (gotta stay meta), and have relearned fizz, zac, and rengar to suit our comps' needs. My warding and gank pathing have improved tremendously with my support's guidance, and I get to flaunt my #sweetplaymakingskills (rammus taunt over dragon wall being my favorite to date) to people who care.

Still gotta work on smiting though...I blame my ping and my laptop for that.

I play in my 850 mmr level 30 bronze 2 and carry every game as Urgot, Wukong, Veigar, and Volibear. EZ. My team is a bunch of random people who if they don't feed keep us in the game. TEAMWORK OP!

Juggernaut6283/23/2015, 5:14:03 AM1 votes

BTW, RandomNewGuy I liked your comment because through deduction I figured you liked the other 3 Rioter comments so I felt like putting yours up to 2 as well :)

I used to have a team who I played with in Season 3, however, when this season came, they all played in Placements and ended up Gold and higher. As the support main of our team, and really the only lane I felt comfortable with, my promos ended me up in Bronze IV. Not sure if that meant I was just a bad player or I really was just unfortunate with all the AFKs and trolls in my placements. Sooo they recommended that I took up a carry lane, such as mid, and get back "on their level". Well, I've brought myself up to Silver IV using the DONGER. :3

But it's unfortunate, because they won't play games with me considering they believe that because of my rank, I will bring the "Bronzies" into the game. Zzz.

Aside from that, we had a lot of fun in S2 and S3. :)

I started playing League fairly early on after one of my friends told me about it and after a while I made it to 30. During that time I started hanging out with a new group of friends who played Heroes of Newerth and constantly talked about it. I knew it was another MOBA but not much else. We agreed to try out each others games and after about a month I got them completely switched over to League. It took probably like 9-12 months before everybody hit 30, but they did(They grow up so fast item 3070 ). We created a ranked team named after their old HoN team, Blood Dragon Unit V, and since then we have been a terror of the high-bronze/low-silver ranked 5's ladder. We've had our rough spots and places that still need improvement(upgrade trinkets pls), but we've had a ton of fun, especially when we do stuff like pulling off a 4 man gnarvan combo.

I also have another group of friends I play with every once in a while that I met at a quiz bowl nationals tournament. One of them was wearing a jacket from S3 Worlds and I was wearing my Cloud9 shirt and we were both like "Hey, you play League?".

I don't have teams but the people I play with give me some real good advice on how to be a better support ( mostly the adc) and they always tell me I'm really good even tho im not so that's pretty much my expierences

a0IP9RlIBC4/2/2015, 12:58:10 PM1 votes

I started the Taylor Swift Experience (we've had a few name changes :p) back in October, and even though I've had to change players every once in awhile due to schedules and whatnot, nothing forms a better bond than killing other teams on the rift :D. We don't ranked together anymore, but I still talk to all of them and try to organize normals whenever I can.

It's funny that you mention the Riot Rumble though, we had the opportunity to play Phreak+Zirene's team. It was really fun :)

FuryofThornsRedo4/2/2015, 7:00:21 PM1 votes

When I first heard of LOL the group of people never asked or invited me to share in their social group. Then 4 years later last year I am asked to hang out with one of those people. Female bonding time for us then in 2014 where I began as FuryofThorns and pride myself with being the original creator of this name Legally bound with the account owners' name in Accordance with LOL copyright Laws.

Here, in 2015 I am persevering with the depth and meaning of the name FuryofThorns, though added an obvious mark with the last word: FuryofThornsRedo. Have had to rebuild and reacquaint with the realm of Summoners Rift in League of Legends Realm of Artistry.

I have been playing solo bot. About a few less than 3 weeks ago I played in a live game with a friends in more than time attending to acquainting with those Champion Summoner needing our time and a platform to excel in bot play, though first time in a group created play with other online met them there friends in other games earlier in the month. Hopefully, I can either be blown away from the competition or know the sound of applause when having accomplished my first tournament win. There are friendly as in softball friendly rewards in this tournament economically sot there are some steaks (I wish) stakes to defend. Wish me Luck in my first Tournament this weekend. Told them I need the competition level to be maximized so I can better gauge or analyze my capacity in truly comprehending my learning agility and ability being the human being to coordinate Teamwork with the Champions in the Realm of League Of Legends.

Good Luck to all of you as well. As I state with Soraka, the main Champion I rely on to run support, "May the Luck in the Stars be in us ALL!" Am I allowed to market the Gaming Lounge in Northern states USA, town or state? Saturday is the Tournament and the anticipation for the tournament nerves are building. With Diana I would assert to the majority of all of you "The truth in the constellations has been laid through time!" Have been a teammate with some of the newer Newcomers and they are racking up statistics better than me, which is magnificent to witness. As quite possibly almost all of you are gaming better than me, though to explain might be better on another trend of discussion. Have already organized my Champion logistics as I try to transition and learn other team positions and responsibilities.

Usually I am supporting Summoner's Rift Action in Random bot games. Slowly acquainting myself with the other levels of League of Legends Competitions level of expertise and Teamwork collaborations. Game On All!

Well, we were doing placements, when all of a sudden we started versing plats. This is a Bronze team may I remind you. No doubt we all lost in a murder spree of 1/42. Then we're all like 'okay, okay atleast our mmr was brought down right..?' After that we got placed in bronze 4 and won 3/5. Rito pls.

webhippo3/20/2015, 1:22:55 AM1 votes

I started playing near the end of Season 3 and had no friends. But I slowly got my residents into League (I was an RA in my residence hall). They loved ARAM and I would always play with them (1000 wins ftw). When I began working in another building last year, I also got some of my coworkers interested in League. We were a team of 4 and were looking for a 5th for what seemed like forever. I played with some random teams I met on the boards to see if I could get any ranked teams rewards. I never clicked with any of them except one. He always played support and I normally adc'd and we were a great duo. Eventually that team we were on broke up and I had him sitting in my friends list and realized that he was our 5th! When I heard his voice for the first time over Curse, I thought he was around my age. But nope, he's 14 and lives in Canada! Most mature 14 year old I've ever met haha. And one of the greatest supports too.

Our team enjoys each other so much, we even began playing other games together too (clash of clans, don't starve together, etc) Thank you League for bringing us together.
