Need some insight... Post-Provisional Rank this Season

I'm not here to complain about my placement following my provisional matches, just hoping to get a little clarity and feedback to help me better understand what may have happened. I would really appreciate constructive feedback. I'll admit, I'm very frustrated with the rank bestowed upon me, but I can't change that now. I need some insight...keep in mind I'm fully aware the calculations for ELO score are kept secret, but there might be something obvious I'm missing through my clouded perception.

Last season was my first season playing ranked (and leagues). After going 3-7 (and knowing WAY LESS about the game than I do now) I was placed in Silver IV. I know for a fact that my provisional matches last season were a joke compared to my matches this season. Looking back, I laugh at the fact that I even opted to play ranked last season. I was just so ignorant and naive compared to now.

This season my provisional matches went much smoother. I've found a role that I'm good at (support), my champion pool has grown immensely and my game knowledge/awareness has improved drastically. From what I could tell, my provisional matches went pretty darn well bar two games (6-4 overall). If you look at my ranked match history of the first 10 games in both seasons, it doesn't even compare. Yet I've been placed in Bronze III...and I honestly just do not understand how. I'm not going to sit here and knock bronze, nor am I going to say "I'm better than this" because it won't do any good. Honestly, I'm a little embarrassed because I thought "surely I'll be at least high silver".

I've accepted my fate and I'll be working my butt off to be where (I feel) I should be, but I just don't understand it. So much so that I need some clarity/feedback in order to really accept it.

Any constructive feedback/theories would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Your previous rank heavily effects your rank after provisional. Going in unranked is like being around silver 4.

It takes quite a bit of losing to drop from a division 5. It looks like you just didn't play enough games for that to happen. Did you end last season at silver 5? If so your MMR was likely well into bronze which would cause to to be placed in bronze almost no matter what.

2 things about placements, ever since season 3, hard resets to mmr were done away with and now your previous seasons ending mmr provides a baseline in provisionals, a baseline that is regressed toward the mean. (Ie: diamond players will have mmr temporarily reduced to closer to average levels while a bronze player would have his inflate to closer to average. Don't get me started in how stupid it is) Additionally, the order in which you acquire wins and losses I provisionals has an affect. Over the course of your first 50 ranked games you will see increased mmr and lp gains and losses. This is so the system can rapidly move you to where it thinks you belong and the effect diminishes from the first game to the last of those 50. After 50 games mmr gains normalize and lp gains reflect what your mmr is vs the divisions mmr. This means a player who wins 6 games in a row then loses four in a row will be placed higher than a player who loses 4 then wins 6.

For all intents and purposes accounts become difficult to move after 50 games. Your best bet to be placed accurately and be put in a position to climb is to perform at peak levels for your first 50.

If you have difficulty climbing after 250 games it's best to make a new account and try again. The amount of afk and trolled games one is forced to tough out make it nearly impossible to climb if you get an account stuck in your first 50.
