Never Played Ranked. Place Higher than Previous Ranked Friends

Alright, I'm sort of new to League. I started playing last year around August. I never played ranked. I have a few friends that played a little bit of ranked. We'd always play normal games together. So I feel that affects MMR. One of my friends was Silver 3, Silver 5 and the other Bronze 2. The Bronze 2 won 9/10 of his ranked games and got placed in Bronze 4. The Silver 5 got placed in Bronze 3 after winning 6-4 and I believe the Silver 3 got placed in Bronze 3 also after going maybe 5-5 (can't remember exactly). Now I've never played ranked and won 4/10 of my ranked games. I didn't queue with my friends on the 6 losses and I was trying to finish placements so they didn't go super well. After finishing placements I got placed in Bronze 1... Obviously none of them were happy about my placement. Im just curious on how I placed higher than them. Does anyone have a valid explanation? Thanks.

I knew it. People on the boards try to feed you this bullshit of bad hidden MMR which apparently is awful for basically everybody (>50% in bronze atm).

God, I was sick of these half-assed excuses. "your MMR was probably a bit lower than your actual rank last season. So it doesn't matter that you finished 12/-2 in your provisionals. That, plus the 'soft reset' Riot was talking about made it that everybody went down some divisions. It's justifiable that you went from Plat2 to Bronze3"

Just so you know. I don't feel as concerned about rank drops as the people I have seen complaining about it here. I absolutely hate ranked. And I have never won as many games as I did in my placement games. Got from Silver4 to Silver5. One would think that you would improve compared to last season if you win a majority of your games, don't you? But then I saw Plat and Gold players dropping in actual bronze. Now I have to be sort of grateful for "only" dropping one division.

End of story? Ranked system is bullshit and super discouraging.

You will almost always land in Silver after your first 10 ranked games, and Bronze 1 is pretty close to that. Players who are already ranked will almost always drop down. Thats just how it works.

Since this was your first ranked play, your ranked mmr was that of low mid silver, then in your placements the mmr went down because of loses, so therefore you were placed in bronze 1.

Nice you should check my season 1 stats I was legit so bad. I played one ranked game by mistake lol.

Even when I check it I'm honestly cringe my score was like that lol

So is that it? I started fresh and accumulated a better MMR or what? I wouldn't say I'm better than them atm. They have about triple and double games played. I'm also pretty sure they weren't heavily playing ranked last season.
