Never Played Ranked. Place Higher than Previous Ranked Friends

Alright, I'm sort of new to League. I started playing last year around August. I never played ranked. I have a few friends that played a little bit of ranked. We'd always play normal games together. So I feel that affects MMR. One of my friends was Silver 3, Silver 5 and the other Bronze 2. The Bronze 2 won 9/10 of his ranked games and got placed in Bronze 4. The Silver 5 got placed in Bronze 3 after winning 6-4 and I believe the Silver 3 got placed in Bronze 3 also after going maybe 5-5 (can't remember exactly). Now I've never played ranked and won 4/10 of my ranked games. I didn't queue with my friends on the 6 losses and I was trying to finish placements so they didn't go super well. After finishing placements I got placed in Bronze 1... Obviously none of them were happy about my placement. Im just curious on how I placed higher than them. Does anyone have a valid explanation? Thanks.

I knew it. People on the boards try to feed you this bullshit of bad hidden MMR which apparently is awful for basically everybody (>50% in bronze atm).

God, I was sick of these half-assed excuses. "your MMR was probably a bit lower than your actual rank last season. So it doesn't matter that you finished 12/-2 in your provisionals. That, plus the 'soft reset' Riot was talking about made it that everybody went down some divisions. It's justifiable that you went from Plat2 to Bronze3"

Just so you know. I don't feel as concerned about rank drops as the people I have seen complaining about it here. I absolutely hate ranked. And I have never won as many games as I did in my placement games. Got from Silver4 to Silver5. One would think that you would improve compared to last season if you win a majority of your games, don't you? But then I saw Plat and Gold players dropping in actual bronze. Now I have to be sort of grateful for "only" dropping one division.

End of story? Ranked system is bullshit and super discouraging.

Half the people are in "Bronze" anyway because that's how the Elo works, ya dingus.

Usually the majority of players in general are in silver and gold. Bronze doesn't have as many players. I don't know the exact numbers right now but bronze players skyrocketed in the transition from season 5 to 6.

Well, I have seen the exact numbers before so I can tell you that is just plain false. Bronze is the most populous division. The simple explanation is that OP is starting out of fresh while his friends who suck are partially affected by last season. That's it. This explains and solves the problem fully; we don't need your dumb conspiracy theory about this to try and to figure this out, it explains itself quite easily.

First link contradicts the second. First link shows that "Bronze is the most populous division." "with the statistics just after Season began:" which contradicts your own point.

Ugh, why don't you get it...

Of course the first link contradicts the second one because these are 2 different seasons.

The first one shows the "soft reset" of Season5 which was way less drastic than the one for the season6.

Season6 had a "soft reset" aswell but the outcome is so different from what happened last year, that people call bullshit.

You can't put all people in Bronze and say "that's how it works"

No, you have no idea how it works. Just like me. Hidden MMR is hidden and you can't play Jesus going around and telling people "You deserve this because rank calculations from Riot never fail". so stop pretending. Only thing we know is that this reset is inexplicable unless you consider it a "hard reset". You are basically saying that everybody who is bronze now (>50% of league players) belong there while most of them get matched against gold-plat-dia-master-whatever players from last season WITHIN THE SAME RANK (which is bronze since going 9-1 is not enough to keep the rank you had last season/preseason). So, what's the point of being Bronze when you, as a gold player, play against other gold players?

I really hope this conversation is over, because it's painful to run in circles.

This actually proves mmr...

He had none.

Had decent placement matchs and got placed where average people play.

If your a plat that dropped to bronze you had HORRIBLE mmr.

I went from gold 3 to silver 1 and I went 3-7 in my placemen's simply because my MMR was so high.

You will almost always land in Silver after your first 10 ranked games, and Bronze 1 is pretty close to that. Players who are already ranked will almost always drop down. Thats just how it works.

Friend of mine got Bronze5 after his very first placement games a season or two ago. Another friend of mine got from Silver to Gold just by playing his placements last season and he already played ranked before that.

Since this was your first ranked play, your ranked mmr was that of low mid silver, then in your placements the mmr went down because of loses, so therefore you were placed in bronze 1.

Nice you should check my season 1 stats I was legit so bad. I played one ranked game by mistake lol.

Even when I check it I'm honestly cringe my score was like that lol

Sigh I played some ranked games in season 1 and 2 but never realized there was rewards till season 3.

Sigh and I'm a Janna main now who had a chance to get victorious janna but can never again due to being stupid at the time.

So is that it? I started fresh and accumulated a better MMR or what? I wouldn't say I'm better than them atm. They have about triple and double games played. I'm also pretty sure they weren't heavily playing ranked last season.
