What PC part needs to be upgraded?

Long story short, a friend's Mac broke and someone gave him an old PCfor free. The CPU is an Intel dual core E8400 running at 2.5~2.8 GHz and and EVGA gtx 650 1GB GPU. League runs 11 fps MAX and that's just standing in the shop, so I imagine team fights will be much worse. What has the priority in being upgraded and to what? Do both need to be upgraded? The CPU socket is a 775, so I know options are limited and target fps would be 60, if possible.

The CPU is what is bottlenecking his performance in LoL. If he doesnt mind getting something second hand, go on to ebay and get a Q series processor. Id recommend a Q6600 and that will bump his fps considerably. I use to run a Q6600 with a GTX460(1 GB), and 8GB of DDR2 RAM, and I was getting over 100 fps in LoL and SC2 was playable on med-high settings.

That GPU will never work hard just bc that motherboard is only running the first generation of PCIe. A SSD wont help him in game very much but it will make the loading screen A LOT faster and it will make the usability of the computer overall much better. Both of those upgrades can be tricky for new users though. A basic reformat to the hard drives and reinstallation of windows would help too, and you would do that anyway with a new SSD.
