Is League losing popularity?

LoL has been my favorite game that I have played and I spend alot of time playing it. However today when riding the bus home, a friend of mine told me that LoL is losing players rapidly and by about next year it will be almost nothing. He also said that the prime of LoL was s3 and s4 and that now its just declining. I thought about this and it really bothered me. To know that im playing so much just so that I end up playing a game that nobody plays, I dont feel as motivated to play. Is this true? Like I can't find any info as to how many players lol has now compared to s3 and s4.

Preseason is really unbalanced and full of trolls due to the imbalances and lack of the competitive season. It's basically the worst that LoL has to offer, and not indicative of the game as a whole. Come back after the 2016 season starts and I promise it'll be better. Riot actually expects people to take a break during this time.

Just look at the players base and how/what riot is doing will tell you everything. The lowest elo players think they know what they are doing, balance this worlds was one of the worst same going into the preseason where diversity is gone and they nerf/buff champions that are irrelevant when clearly bad/broken. It will only get worse until riot actually listen but the people leading the charge of everything is the majority which happens to be lower elo players that obviously dont put nearly the time and effort to know how to play or they wouldnt be bad at the game. I think the game only survives if the pros really voice their opinions about how shit everything has become like meteos has been about the patch, then the game might have a chance.

Game is turning to stale garbage ... you have good friends keep them close they are not misleading you in the least. Dont give the company money until they prove they are worth it, which hasnt been for quite some time.

Even though i'm bad at the game i really like researching both League and Riot itself. The reason you can't find any info on player base is Riot haven't released any since 2014. They gave a reasoning which i think only is a cover because, a riot producer would most likely release info on it. If it was going well for the game. In 2014 the player base was at 67 mill players across all regions. If it was going well for League of legends they would release info on it because it's great for investors. LCS and other competitive matches are getting less and less views. Also if you look at other MOBA games you can see their player base is diminishing. Riot also recently released half exp to lvl up, which is to get new players.

All over all i think that not only League of legends is loosing players, but MOBA itself peaked some time ago and slowly getting a more and more niche genre

The game should feel more rewarding for the low elo players, which are the main base of the game, and rewarding for the pro players as well...

I think the reward shouldnt be based on the league, a pro player will probably just get happy to be climbing the leagues... while an amateur might have more fun just by playing a "certain" number of games to complete the game and get some reward in return. I have some friends that got so frustrated with LoL because all they ever wanted was that "Gold skin" that we are only able to retrieve when we get into gold.. unfortunately, not everyone has the time or the skills to reach there... and they fall into frustration, leaving the game. If many people leave the game, LoL might have a hard time to come back.

The "gold" reward shouldnt be focused in the league and more in the number of games or some possible achievements so that everyone that plays and suppports the game everyday can reach it and "finish" the season happily with a well deserved reward... no matter on which league they are... The "gold league reward is a huge problem for the silver and bronze players which is the majority of the LoL player base. If that base quits the game, LoL wont survive with the minority of skillful players. Riot needs their fans to enjoy the game too and be able to be rewarded, rewarded to participate in the game and to watch the LCS. :) If they never get that feeling of "finishing" the game, like for example of completing the season... they wont be coming back for more next season...

Some people just enjoy collecting things, they love the fact that they can achieve the goals and get the rewards...the icons, the skins, etc.... if they need to get so frustrated by being forced to climb a league to get a reward,... many ppl will quit because it will be too hard for them.

All my friends that started in season 2 have quit... because they were silver 2, silver 1... and they have struggled to reach gold ...and after season 5 , they realized they didnt have any of the rewards... so RIOT made them used to the idea of never getting a reward or getting something in return out of league of legends... and then they leave and move to another game that makes them feel happy... with achievable rewards for the level...

Some people have a life, a family, they do have a job and ... in between they try so hard to play league... probably its such people that buy skins and support the game too... if they quit due to no rewards coz they are someone labeled as "noob" just because they belong to a league that its not rewarding... coz they dont have a gold skin and so on... then I am sure they will quit.. and RIOT loses a valuable player.

The PRO ESPORT scene wont survive without all the community supporting the game... RIOT needs everyone. IF RIOT wants to make the game feel rewarding for thte low elo, its urgent that RIOT starts thinking about new ways of getting those pretty gold skins ..or revamp the whole reward system of league.

League of Legends is a sport, but its also a video game, and we can't expect to bring there ladders and fake leagues to motivate more people to play the game. We need real leagues, rewards for tthe people that support the game, the sense of belonging to a community , the sense of allowing us to "finish" the season with a big win, a big reward for being there everyday supporting this game ..

It's about time to start bringing also a video rec system to allow everyone to see the match...

And please, bring a big league, bring the teams back and create something more useful for the CLUBS... whats the use of creating a club if no one is able to find it online or follow them?... Now the club its just a group of friends... should be and feel like a real club...

and PLEASE, stop that mmr and bring a smarter league system... or at least make the climbing easier... it is also weak that we have to struggle to climb the ladder league... 1 win 1 loss... its like 0 points... a win should feel more rewarding and a loss should be less punishing... we should be pushed to the reward easily not in a punishing way that some people even have to request some SMURFS to climb for them and waste huge amounts of money.... MONEY that could be used to buy more skins directly on the game store... but instead, its money that is wasted due to the frustration of such bronze and silver players that are not able to climb.....

RIOT do something, its season 6 and we had more visual changes that anything else... its about time t think about your FAN base! and about making this game more fun to play for everyone... essentially, more rewarding.

Ah, and btw, come to KOLN! GAMESCOM 2016... last year we all missed you there... all your cosplayers missed you, and all your fans... summoner 3
