AFK response from Riot. A possible solution.

So far, there has been no in game or in client response to AFKs. They released the updated leaverbuster and they say it's helped a lot. But something still seems lacking to most players. We still get the level 1s sitting in our base AFK. Something could and should be done to improve morale.

One thing Riot talks about is trying to reward people and not just punish them. So I have an idea: Reward people at some period (not just at the end of the season) for staying in games. Not leaving them.

I suggest that Riot give everyone who has not left, whether by intent or otherwise, more than ~3 games for so long a mystery chest. That means a random 975 skin or higher. There could be lesser rewards for more leaves. leave no more than ~5 games and you get a mystery gift. 520 or higher. Also, since Riot is in love with summoner icons, there could be the ultimate reward icon. If you have only left 1 (maybe even zero) games in the last X months, you get this super special icon. Something like a thumbs-up from Brolaf. Exclusively for them. How cool would that be?

I think this is an awesome way to hit up Riot's want to reward us more as well as making sure the players feel appreciated for staying around in game.

i was playing a game this winter and the heavy snow caused a transformer outside my house to explode.

power was out for 3 days.

i am pretty sure i got reported.. and i had to do the i agree thing that riot sends out to people who afk.

conclusion... it happens man.. stop trying to have peoples heads cut off because they had something happened.
i do believe in reporting people who purposely do this, but just report and move on... why try and get something for nothing?

But even so, if it happens by your choice or not, it ruins the game for people, who wants to give it their all knowing that if you have an afk you're going to most likely lose. It's just not fun. It becomes a burden.

Pretty sure having the power out for three days is a bigger burden than a 20-40 minute video game.

I'm not on a witch hunt here. And I'm not blaming you for disconnecting from that game. I think it is right to report people who disconnect. But I think it's a shame that right now there's no positive effect for staying uber committed to the game. As long as you don't leave too many in too short a time you can get away with it. And the rest of us get left in the dust of a ruined game. No fun. So why not encourage the people who suffer through those games to feel special. To feel like their part in league matters.

People can still win a 4v5.. just throwing your hands in the air and mad that you are in a 4v5 is basically the end of it. Just play thru.

I love trying to win a 4v5! It can go well in the start because everyone is forced to do their very best on the 4 man side. Usually the enemy will beat us with objective splitting but I DO NOT just give up in that case and walk away. Plus, I think you're misunderstanding me bro. That's not what I'm trying to talk about here.

Yeah, it does happen. The point is, if you don't leave games, even extenuating circumstances are going to keep you flying under the radar and can get you those special bonuses. I know that I tend to leave games where there's an AFK on my side and the game isn't going well enough to reasonably pull out a win. I don't ever leave games otherwise, so my "once every other month or so" leave doesn't get punished. If there were special bonuses, like even a summoner icon or whatever, I'd have something to look to and say "yeah, I can go on ahead and just stick it out for that."

The thing about punishments is that people will very often find a way to slide by without getting punished. When there's a strict requirement for a reward, even if it's not something I really even want, it means there's something there for me to aspire to, and that tips the balance. There's a powerful psychology to this kind of thing, even if the rational side can't see it.

well I agree with you, but the problem is the team with the afkers. How will they win now?. I played a game with a dc'd fiora and she came back like 12 min later but then she couldn't catch up. That's the problem there. Give teams with afkers a advantage so that its a fair fight. This helps people who didn't afk on purpose to not get reported.
