I actually don't want voice chat added.

If you have ever played League Of Legends you will know there are loads of toxic people and talking to them would be awful, would make the game experience 10x worse, and above that if someone is toxic and you report them it is going to take longer for them to be punished because they're going to need to listen to the conversation, and its just going to have a negative affect on league.

P.S. Upvote if you agree.

I upvoted, but prepare for the flood of downvotes. The last thing I need is some 8 year old with mom's credit card screaming in my ears during the game.

If they let us mute keyboard chat they'll let us mute voice chat. Problem solved.

There's also the issue of female league players. Females who openly reveal their sex tend to be seen as doing it for special treatment, that goes double for females that have "cute" voices. If you choose to use a voice chat feature, you're choosing to reveal your sex unless you have a really manly voice or use voice changing software. I don't like dealing with the stigma of being thought of as a female gamer, so I will not be using this feature.

My concern with the addition of voice chat is that people on your teams WILL expect you to use it.

Which might be fine with some people.

But I am a female player and it is obvious when you hear me. (Xbox was a fine example in that.) And, as other female players have probably experienced, a chunk of the gaming community loves to get really sexist when they find out you're a girl. I've written novel-long reports on creeps like that.

Besides, how would you report harassment through voice chat? Will Riot record the conversations? :/

Optional voice chat with a mute sounds and mute mic button, PROBLEM SOLVED

You are toxic in voice chat, you are BANNED from voice chat. It would be a toxicity fest for the first week or two, but it could only get better and better with the salty people getting the privilege taken away from them.

Battlecast Sona7/1/2016, 7:04:19 AM7 votes

imo people are less toxic on VoIP than they are in chat because you can actually hear the voice of the other person. It's harder to de-humanize them as you're screaming obscenities - not that people will always care. But in my experience in DotA2 (with built in VoIP) maybe like 80% of my voice chat interactions have been civil if not polite.

Every single system in the world can be abused.

Instead of looking into how it will be abused (because that can be fixed by simply muting the person) you should look into how it can improve the communication and coordination.

They need to include something never added in the history voice chat in online gaming, a script that you can toggle and it will mute them! Revolutionary! Right?

TaoistMaster7/1/2016, 5:23:43 PM6 votes

This game is competitive and team oriented.

It has to and will happen.

Honestly, I find it much more difficult to be rude and toxic to others when in actual voice chat. It's obviously more personal and therefore you can't just hide behind your keyboard like you can with type chat. I feel more responsible for my spoken words then when I'm just typing.

Varus Vindicator7/1/2016, 2:12:10 PM5 votes

then... don't... use... it...

MyLittleWindmill6/30/2016, 9:35:23 PM5 votes

Are they really adding voice chat? I guess if they do I just hope it's optional.. the communication that's already in game is good enough in my opinion. The pings are pretty helpful as it is..

Flitchee7/1/2016, 2:29:50 PM5 votes

Thing is, when using voice chat, i find people are generally nicer, because they cant necessarily "hide" aswell as when they type

SlashStriker7/1/2016, 5:25:09 PM5 votes

I have no problem with voice chat as long as you can disable it like other games

Decrit7/1/2016, 9:21:13 AM4 votes

Point is, i think they won' t in the end. They said they are still figuring it out, even if they plan to do it.

I say so because i know riot thinks globally, and adding voice chat in EUW would be a true clusterfuck. At least in america you know you speak different degrees of english, but here in europe you move a few kilometers and can find 3+ different languages! and i think ours is not the only region to do so. The effectiveness of voice chat would then be too much skewed toward those who are paried up with people that can speak english, or that can speak a common language.

Or, at least i hope they don' t add it to EUW.

Blåbæret7/1/2016, 1:05:19 PM3 votes

I don't think it'll be a problem as long as you can mute/disable it.

4th3t0s7/1/2016, 4:07:15 PM3 votes

It's like this, voice chat won't stop the true assholes from being assholes, just like it won't bring the nicer people towards negativity; everyone else in between however, will likely be a lot more pleasant to deal with when you bring actual voices into the picture.

From what I've seen, a LOT of in-game toxicity is usually caused by misunderstandings and semantics; which really can't be conveyed properly in written words; voice chat will likely fix that problem.

President Swa1n7/1/2016, 4:40:18 PM3 votes

But they said it was going to be optional, both listening in and using it.

warpenguin5557/1/2016, 5:13:54 PM3 votes

I was on your side a few months back, but with DQ not going anywhere :( voice chat is probably the best way to even the playing field. Not overly happy but whatever

AsheGetsGanked7/2/2016, 6:04:40 PM3 votes

I'm not really comfortable talking online with people I don't really know idk why but it's hard for me to really talk in voice chat even with my friends that I have added in LOL. I also don't like listening to people when I play

Nebuul7/2/2016, 1:29:25 AM3 votes

Amen to that. I barely want to voice chat with people I know IRL. Strangers? No thanks.

Jonxx7/1/2016, 3:50:10 PM3 votes

Heh, I bet most of those people who are toxic won't have guts to talk on voice chat. We'll see.

PS. In Dota 2 there's very little flame on voice chat. People mostly use it to communicate on important stuff.

Daxterr7/2/2016, 5:06:22 AM2 votes

Someone's probably already said this but I'd probably quit league when I realized how many 12 year olds I was playing with.

TheKarry7/1/2016, 10:56:20 PM2 votes

League with voice chat are just gonna be full of shit talkers, little kids, and the minority will be people trying to communicate. Sadly, I think voice chat in league is a terrible idea imo

Blue Moon Wolf7/1/2016, 6:01:52 AM1 votes

I actually have very mixed feelings about this idea. On the one hand, premades wouldn't have as much of an advantage as they could since everyone could communicate with each other without having to stop and type. On the other hand, there are a lot of toxic people like you said and I'm not very fond of the idea of someone literally trash talking the whole match.

Maybe there could be some kind of middle ground. There is that Dragon program that lets you speak and convert what you say to text. Maybe something like that where you can press a separate button (like spacebar or something) that converts what you say to text and lets you send it, that way communication can be faster without making toxicity worse than it is now.
