Is scamming illegal?

Recently, a guy asked, would anyone like to trade a gift in the end game screen, and I said yes. So he told me to send him a gift first and he will send one to me. So I did. Then, he said send me 2 more and I will send you 3 afterwards, well, obviously I didn't because that must be a scam. And after that he kept saying I swear I will send you back and at last he didn't and left the screen. Obviously, he scammed me so I tried to send a ticket to Riot support. They said they cannot do anything about it since they have warned us the cons of gifting. However, isn't scamming a crime? I thought Riot can do something about this if it is against the law. Sorry for making things so confusing.

End of game is gifts are exactly that GIFTS. If you want cheep random skins wait for them to unlock the personal random feature again.

You were not scammed, you were just lied to. If the person at work asks you for 5 bucks and the does not pay you back, is it against the law? NO

The only crime here was stupidity.

Well I'm guessing your young, because you trusted a person online, but take it as a lesson. If there isn't a system implemented to protect both people then don't do it.
