Betting IP on LCS and Tournament Games
I honestly believe that it would be in the best interests of everybody if there was an IP betting system implemented for LCS games and tournament games. Since IP is has no monetary value and is purely "internet points," the profits and risks would be superficial while still creating an atmosphere of excitement and reward. The system could work either through the league client itself or from sites similar to fantasy league. For example, once the system was in place a summoner could wage 100 IP on a game between two NA teams. Their team wins and they then receive 200 IP back, and if their team loses then they've only lost 100 IP (which can be easily regained with a single game of league).
- Greatly increases the feelings immersion one feels when teams win and lose
- Excites casual summoners leading them to play more and watch more
- Creates an incentive for a summoner to play more games to gain more IP
- Further ignites a competitive spirit with no risk and genuine reward because lost points are made back easily
- Creates more incentive to watch games and stay updated on teams. More views benefit the streaming sites because all of their revenue comes from increased views of advertisements
- With summoners acquiring more IP, they would naturally be getting more champions. More champions being acquired means more skins being bought for said champions
The framework to implement a simple IP betting system is already in place through venues such as fantasy league and streaming sites such as twitch or lol.esports. This is important because it means that there would be minimal effort on Riots part to integrate an IP betting system. This is win-win situation because the league community is given additional IP and an even greater thrill for competitive games. Streaming sites gain increased viewers and value to advertisements. Riot gets revenue from secondary purchases (such as skins, IP boosts, etc.) and an increased interest by the community in competitive play.
