It was a temporary game mode, it said it in the client, it was that little gold star that is no longer there.

Just a temporary game mode unfortunately. The good news is they will be releasing a new temporary game mode every month or so, so we get to try different things! They already announced a 1v1 or 2v2 game mode coming out for the Snowdown.
