Platnium, Silver, and My Take

Let's get right to the point, addressing the similarity between Silver and Platinum (not element-wise, color-wise).

When I was a new player, I couldn't actually tell the difference between the two ranks. Riot tried to solve this by making Platinum green, which will bother me to eternity tbh. Platinum is more lustrous and bright then silver and that;s... just about it. Everyone I know personally who also plays league agrees that the plat border is their least favorite, Plat isn't considered a desirable rank because of this (shallow? sure. Do I care that it is? no).

"What do you want to do about it, sealust?" I want to change Platinum's rank. If we made Platinum the color it's meant to be we'd still be in the same situation; silver and plat still look nearly identical in color, in fact many metals share that color. Changing silver would remove the bronze, silver, gold tradition we see in just about every sport and competition.

That leaves my suggestions:

  • Rock, mineral, or metal? Diamond's a rock but gold is a metal and so it plat...
  • If you want to keep it green, Olivine: green, glassy, common in the crust
  • My personal favorite; Obsidian. Have you-- have you seen or handled obsidian? It's BEAUTIFUL. It's color would differentiate it from every other rank and now that we don't have a flat black background during loading, I really believe it's doable. I'd only ask that it be as sharp and shiny as the actual rock is. you wanna know how it's formed? yes? ok ok. It's shoots out of volcanoes at high speeds and cools SO rapidly it becomes extremely smooth and fine grained and the most beautiful rock I've ever seen. It breaks so sharply it can stab people.
  • Hell, it could change to Neodymium Sulfate so we could have a pink rank.

I'm more then happy to discuss this and hear suggestions. And while I'm certainly not demanding anything, I'd like Riot to consider changing Platinum's rank so It would be easily distinguishable from the other ranks.
