Hell - I don't even know what smartcast really is, but I have been wanting to cast my spells faster as playing malz.. Could someone please describe to me what smartcasting is? Does it auto target? Does it cast spells fast or as fast as I can slap them? Thanks

It means your ability will cast as soon as you press the button rather than showing the indicator and making you click again. For almost all abilities, holding the button will show the indicator (if you have the show indicator button checked) until you let go then it casts, and you can cancel if you want.

I didn't start using smart-casting until early S4. Hell, I didn't even use a mouse until S3 (was instead using a track-pad).

Smart-casting is, simply put, casting the spell without needing to click again to confirm it, on the location of where your mouse is. It's faster. Most directional skill shots will fire automatically, but those that require to be in range will make the champion walk until {s}he is in range. For targeted spells, your mouse must be over your intended target; if your mouse isn't on a valid target, then the spell simply won't activate. Just think of it as auto-clicking, so to speak, when you hit the QWERDF/1234567.

done well it can save you a quarter second to activate you abilities which doesn't seem like much but for some champions smart casting is required just to make them feel smooth.

All smart cast does is make your abilities automatically cast in the direction your mouse is pointing when you press either the Q,W,E, or R. It won't show you any direction indicators or give you time to select, aim, and then cast. So basically you need to make sure your mouse is pointing in the right direction before you use an ability because it will automatically cast the ability.

However, I don't think that it is good to switch everything to smart cast because the manual cast option would give you time to line up skill shots and even cancel if you decided you didn't want to fire. Also, some champion abilities require a windup time and if you set it to smart cast it caste automatically and won't do the full windup.

it allows you to just press q instead of pressing q and then clicking. When i switched it improved my gameplay by leaps and bounds. I still don't smart cast channeled abilities though because you have to hold the button in order to keep channeling.
