How to Not be Offensive When Playing League

Hello all. So I've been playing league for about six months now. I've just recently got to level 30, and have been enjoying myself. But one thing that still gets me about this game is how mean the community can be. For one, there will always be flamers, and ragequitters, spammers, and those who blame the team for their own faults. This post is not for them.

This post is aimed towards people who consider themselves normal. People who don't realize that they're being offensive. That they're playing off of stereotypes. I'd like to address some issues and words/phrases that the community tends to use without realize the offensiveness of them.

Caution: I do reference some language that could be offensive or triggering for clearer examples. I apologize in advanced to any I offend.

Gay

The word gay is not an insult. Neither is queer. Do not treat them as such. And just because in a forum people speculate that Ezreal might be gay (based off of very stereotypical means I may add) does not mean you can call him a %%%, call him gay for ganking, etc. because "it's true".

I would love for there to be queer characters in League. I've searched high and low for official Riot statements on characters sexuality or gender non-conformity. But I haven't seen it. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but I haven't found it yet. In a game where champions come from all over, I would hope that gay, bi, lesbian, trans, and otherwise queer characters would exist with Riot's official stamp of approval. But we're yet to see that.

Slurs

R%%%%%ed is a slur. %%%%%% and %%% are also slurs. Do not use them. You are playing a game with people from all over the world who come from various backgrounds and could be made up of any combination of identities. Don't use offensive language. Riot has told you not to, and I am telling you not to. Don't use racial slurs, gender slurs, sexuality slurs, slurs based off of outdated terminology, etc. Just don't. And if you see anyone using offensive terms, just say so. Just tell them not to. And if they refuse, report them. They'll get the message. The object of the game is to have fun, not to aggravate people. If you want to troll, there are plenty of internet forums not associated with a game to do so on.

Rape

Losing your lane is not rape. Getting ganked is not rape. Nothing in this video game is rape. only rape is rape. It is highly offensive and triggering to actual survivors when you use this terminology out of context. No one wants to have a panic attack while playing a video game, so stop equating losing a team battle to a real and horrific crime.

Just be nice.

It's a video game y'all. Just have fun and play. Stop being mean to everyone, and give some positive feedback once in a while. Just because a person is on the other team does not mean you get to insult them. Be sportsman-like.

Thank you all those who have read my post, and have a good day, and a good game.
