Helping me choose a new champion

Greetings, I have recently gotten back into the game, and I was wondering if people might have some advice on a champion to play or acheatype to play based off of some of my previous experiences.

I previously have mained champions such as Mordekasier, Riven, and Diana. Though I name these three as mains previously, I have played almost every champion Though I do not mind putting a good deal of work into learning a class (half the fun of games for me is doing it on paper), I am not particularly skilled. I have played a lot of vayne in the past, and I enjoy her, but frankly I suck at playing her after 200 games I really enjoy split pushing and dueling I generally prefer mid-late game champs. Hypercarries are too much of a risk, and get bullied to hard to early, I would rather have a fighting chance of at least surviving early game I am always open to learning new playstyles and strategies if I know the mindset I am working towards

Any input or advice is much appreciated, thank you.

I think my recommendation would be Maokai Tank seems to be the in meta right now and he might be the best. He is a late game bruiser and his ult plus item 3190 and a Sona support makes Team fights a breeze. He is probably better top lane but if you are like me you will have trouble carrying, I like to JG with him bc he counters the popular fast aggressive Kindred Rengar MasterYi types really well and his seedlings make him hard to ambush as well as being an awesome gank champ, the drawback is he is slow and doesn't do a lot of damage so it takes a while to clear camps.
