Retroactive Punishments for Improved Players is Not Acceptable

WIth Riot Lyte's recent 'miscommunication', and then the 'correction', I still don't understand how retroactively punishing players again is okay in any situation.

If people are toxic at the end of the season, ESPECIALLY BEING AWARE BEFORE HAND of the consequences, I wholeheartedly support the communicated decision to remove whatever rewards they've earned. But, I will never support the further punishment of people who were banned MONTHS ago, servered their punishment and improved, and who have not been 'toxic' since. If you want to increase punishments for toxic players, make it effective the day it is communicated. Think of it like a law, it has to be documented/communicated before it can be enforced.

This would be a very dissapointing decision to punish people who improved, as is Riot Lyte's apparent objective, but are then still punished for something that happened months ago. It is, to me, such a huge disservice to those who played all season grinding to improve both mechanically and in their attitude but are told towards the end of the season it was all for nothing.

I hope this post reaches Riot's decision makers and helps them in their discussions to not support a precedent of retroactive punishments.

I'm not here to defend toxic players, I'm here to defend those that have improved and are looking forward to being rewarded as expected.

Thanks for reading.

Riot did this same thing last year so its not even new. I do agree they could have communicated it better, but it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone.

Nothing retroactive about it. Most of us knew this was coming from the moment they did it last year - Get banned during the regular season, no rewards for you. It's just part of the punishment. If you said this last year, when it was actually legitimately retroactive, you'd have had more of a point.

If you improved, don't get punished next year and get the rewards then.

you don't have to "improve" to get rewards.

you have to improve to not be a dick. The improvement is it's own reward, the End of Season reward is the icing, not the cake.

ESPECIALLY BEING AWARE BEFORE HAND of the consequences

The consequences for toxicity are known already. It includes bans, chat restrictions, and just like last year, not getting a reward.

This is from last year's season rewards on leagueoflegends.com

"In addition, players who whose behavior is among the most negative in their region will NOT be eligible for end of season rewards. In most regions, this penalty will apply to the most negatively behaved players who are ranked restricted (or chat-restricted in regions without ranked restrictions)."

So, if you have negative behavior, don't be surprised to have your rewards not given to you.

I just don't get it. Lyte said that people who had "ruined hundreds of thousands of games", players who had several 20-minute LeaverBuster, wouldn't receive rewards.

I had a LB streak in Spring ("ruining", about max 20 games IIRC), (wooden PC..) and has since not getting LB a single time. If this means I won't get season rewards I'd be really sad, considering I have improved my behavior since.
