Kill Steal

I had a specific question about ks, and I haven't really seen it addressed in the boards before. Probably the best way to ask this is to provide an example:

I main Xerath, and by mid game I can usually deal heavy damage. Varus and I are going against a solo Yi. Varus and Yi go at each other, and I, a short distance off, quickly use my W and charge up my Q. By the time I'm ready to fire my Q, Yi has low enough health that it takes him out. Varus has low health (don't know the exact number, but between a tenth and a sixth of his total health), and accuses me of ks.

I understand that generally, giving the kill to the carry is better, but in this case, we're both carries (He went 17/10 overall, I went 11/3). I've wondered before if that counts as a kill steal, but this was the first time anyone's ever called me out on it (I was also called out a couple other times by multiple summoners throughout this match). Because most of Xerath's abilities don't deal damage immediately, I often get the last hit, whether I'm specifically trying to or not.

Would this be considered a ks? Or was I just playing a game with a bunch of babies?

KS stands for "Kill Secure".

... Being serious though: this isn't a Call of Duty deathmatch map; it's a team based siege game. Kill stealing is not a thing.

It's a very touchy topic really.

I'd say it wasn't a steal in my opinion as you had already hit him prior.

Claiming a kill was "stolen" is usually just a reason for people to complain... But they fail to realize that there is assist gold and it's not really a steal because it's going towards the teams main goal of winning the game.

A good example of a blatant steal is if you see an ally attacking an enemy with the knowledge that your teammate will get the kill and the enemy will not get away, then deciding when they get down to 1-5% health to use a skill on them for the kill.

A lot of times it's straight up judgement call too. If I don't think my ally will get the kill, I will take it to make sure the enemy doesn't get away sometimes and that's perfectly fine.

It's a team game like above said. If you watch some of the LCS games you'll notice the main thing talked about is GOLD. A kill is gold for your team which can translate to more wards or items to help in team fights.

Honestly I've never understood the point of people throwing a fit about KS'ing in 99% of situations.

There are situations where you shouldn't be getting kills IF you are usually try harding like in ranked. Outside of ranked, realistically I would say it isn't an issue anyone should be worried about.

There are cases where people maybe shouldn't be getting kills

  • Supports shouldn't be actively trying to get kills
  • If ganking for a lane, A jungler usually shouldn't be actively trying to get kills (unless he is securing it in legit fashion to make sure they die.).

In most cases, if it is feasible, the support should back off, but sometimes abilities are being spammed, and stuff happens.

If possible, the jungler should be trying to back off a bit and give the kill to the laner, but sometimes things happen, like maybe a cinderhulk burn or red buff tick taking the kill. Stuff happens.

If there is a fight with 2+ people that are carries (mid and the adc for example) and either gets a kill, it really shouldn't matter, and if someone cries KS, then they need to stop playing right there, because it really doesn't matter.

A carry cannot kill steal. Since they are who you want the gold on.

I had fun trolling someone on this very topic in a game by pretending I had no idea what a kill steal was and kept asking how much damage he had to do before it was his.

I consider someone using poor stratagies and I'd treat it like that. Don't waste a long cooldown on a champion that is already dead, don't take things from a carry that needs gold. Perhaps a quick education
