Azir, Lissandra, the Watchers, and the Ascended

So in the story Lissandra talks about after a match in the howling abyss she says, quote "Long before Ashe and Sejuani, before magic shattered the broken peaks, before the desert swallowed Shurima, it was the time of The Three Sisters", she is implying that when she was a servant of the watchers when Shurima was still existent. So, maybe it was also when Azir was the emperor of shurima, who claimed to be an ascended.

What if this powers of "ascended" were given by the watchers too? And instead if ice born, they were ascended. I don't know but this seems connected to me, but we still need Azir's lore to know more before jumping into conclusions. What do you think?

It all depends on how such power is gained. The way I currently see it is ascended earn their power through work, where as iceborn (and void creatures like Malzahar and Kassadin, though they are not related) are gifted power from other beings. I guess the real question is whether Azir is truely ascended like Xerath is or not.

Unlikely, more likely Shurima was what the watchers created the iceborn to fight.

That's my guess anyway.
