I was thinking that riot could do like events for people who dont wanna pay for their rp, they could win free rp*[zombie-brand-mindblown]*

You can already get free skins and champions by not receiving punishments. For the entire season.
You can already unlock champions and skins via hextech crafting.
Twice a year (with the first time starting today), you can purchase chromapack skins for 2000 IP each
You can get free loading borders, icons, and champion skins based on your rank at the end of the season

Why are you asking for MORE free things from a game that is already free to play? Either get a job and pay for the things you want, or keep enjoying the benefits of free things that Riot gives you.

If you are good enough you can join tournaments. Either sponsored or not by riot (the sponsored one changed so that you need 16 teams to get RP thou). A lot of communities have periodic tourneys (usually once a month) that you can get RP or some random streamer that wants more subs will also do this, they give between $5 and $25 per player worth of RP and some bragging rights.

Beware thou since those tourneys always have a few diamonds/master players and the rest are plat/gold. Very few silvers and below and the ones that are on those ranks usually are smurfs so winning takes a combination of skill and luck.

They have already given us a way to unlock RP only content without spending RP. They also do give out free champions/skins every once in a while to players who haven't been punished within a certain amount of time. If Riot does too much to give stuff away for free, it will start hurting their income.

They do give out things at the end of the year. IIRC your reward is based off what you have.

It tries to give you a champ, If you have all the champs it gives you a mystery skin, I believe if you have all the skins it gives you RP.

That means that so long as you own every champs, aka are a frequent long standing League player, you get something that is valued in RP.

Not saying anything for or against your idea, just throwing that out there.

they use to have tournaments where you could win free rp by placing 1-4th 1st got 3200 2nd got 2400 3rd got 1600 4th got 800 then they randomly halfed that amount and eventually took it completely away a few months ago

If you don't want to pay for RP, then don't. If you want premium content outside of the MULTIPLE methods Riot already gives you, then pay for RP. Don't like it? Deal with it.
