Because for some reason, Supports have to have shit stats. Shit bases, Shit scaling.

They are not allowed to go into any other lane, If they somehow manage it (Lulu top, Ali jungle, Anyone can add to this list it gos on and on) They are nerfed into hell.

Support mages at this point tend to fill the role better. Because Better base stats, Better scaling, Better base damage. (And in most cases) Lower cds.

Except Ali jungle was nightmare fuel and Lulu solo lane was a terror for anyone to deal with. Most supports when they are able to go into other lanes and do well tend to outperform by miles anyone else, which is why they get nerfed so often when they do well in solo lanes. While I do dislike that non-supports becoming supports, it's not like they are completely pushing traditional supports out of the role. If anything, they are adding more diversity to the role (which is what you argue for with supports being able to go into solo lanes, but I digress)

I disagree, right now the best solo Q supports are Leona Blitzcrank Janna all of whom have always been mainly support champions (with the exception of Janna's brief time in mid). I think that most of the best supports to play are still "true" supports.

Supports aren't required to have terrible stats, but having lower base stats allows space in their power budget to give stat buffs in their spells (see Sona 's HP base and growth stat).

Supports aren't nerfed to the ground due to seeing success in other roles, they're nerfed because they're bullshit in other roles ( Soraka : I'm never going to die and I'm never going to run out of mana to heal myself and my minons. Even if you're stronger than me, I still win because I can't lose. Deal with it.)

While certain mage supports can bring tons-o-dmg to the table, I don't think Morgana Annie have a way to heal their allies (though I'll be honest I haven't taken a serious look at 5.5 notes so maybe there were some huge changes that didn't get tested on PBE) and their CC is much more limited. For example, if your objective was to stop someone from moving, would you pick or Leona ?
