ARAM is an unintentionally fixed game mode. What can we do?
I have been playing League Of Legends since post-second season. That has given me quite the experience in classic modes (draft, ranked, etc.) on how team building with different roles impacts game play in game. These modes can get irritating when constantly losing matches or dealing with "toxic" players. So, I go relax my nerves in a casual game of ARAM. But reflecting on all the game play I have had in the thriving ARAM game mode, a lot of the losses/wins I receive just do not add up in my book... When playing an ARAM match the other day, I noticed something. My team was a full ability power caster comp. (pretty squishy). While on the other side of the Howling Abyss, was an enemy team with champions entirely of tanks. My teammates and I lose the match as they rant on and on about how the game is fixed. I know that this game mode is not intentionally fixed by any way. But I understand the feeling my fellow league players have developed about this... All Random All Mid is certainly as it is perceived to be. Every summoner has a chance to be a champion they see fit. If not, summoners may re-roll for another chance. But what are players getting into while in champion select? Players can walk into a team with a well round comp of roles leaving them without a counter. So I have a couple ideas roaming in my thick fuzzy head.
- what if we could see what the enemy team has in champion select, instead of diving in blind?? Each team would be able to see what possible roles would be played. If a Summoner notices that an opposing player has a countering champion, they then could use re-rolls with a good possibility for a better pick. This gives both teams a better chance and more reasonable game, rather than hoping an opposing player is bad. This also makes champion switching more convenient.
- what if ARAM had a pre-game role category system?? before players are given a champion, players are able to decide on what role they desire in all categories (bruiser, caster, assassin, etc.). When a category is chosen, players are then given a random champion that fits in that particular category.
These are just thoughts on how ARAM can give players a better advantage in a battle for the bridge. As at the same time, the random selection is still part of the game mode.
