Anyone else bummed about the discontinuation of the RP+ card?
For those of you who don't know, the RP+ card was a joint marketing arrangement between American Express and Riot. The card was a prepaid card that you could connect to your debit card; for money you spent on the card, you earned RP. (I think it was approximately 1 point for every $3 spent.) It doesn't sound like a lot, but it seriously added up. I earned hundreds of RP mostly from buying groceries.
I don't have a lot of money sitting around, so I really appreciated that opportunity to earn RP with money I was already spending. It was a way for me to say, "Hey, I'm kinda broke, but I still want to show my support for the game I love." Even more than that, the champion depicted on the card was a great conversation starter. I met so many Summoners, and that card initiated so many "I <3 Teemo" vs "I hate Teemo" debates! Even people who never heard of League asked me about the card. For a game that has reached over 67 million active players through mostly word-of-mouth, the RP+ card was a helluva recruitment technique.
Riot, I appreciate the fact that marketing is complicated, and I'm sure there's a reason it's being/been discontinued. I just wanted to express my sadness about this, and ask you: Will you have anything like this in the future?
That said, thanks for your continued efforts to make this the most player-oriented game in the world :) . Y'all are seriously the best.
