I feel bad...

So I'm doing my placement matches for League and I just finished my 9th game, we lost. The reason we lost was because of... well... me. You see me and my friend like to duo que and we hopped into a ranked match hoping for some fun. We worked with our team in the champion select and everyone got what they wanted, it was nice and seeing as my friend and I both fill it wasn't to hard to work things out. We started the game, ready for action, and the moment we hit the loading screen my laptop crashed. Now let me tell you about my laptop. I got it four years ago and since then it has been a champ, I've never once had a problem with it. It's certainly not a high-end laptop but I can max League's graphics settings and still pull 60 frames. I've put love and care into this machine, learning how it works from the inside out; pulling it apart countless times to clean it with the utmost care. So to say I was surprised that it crashed would be an understatement. Returning to the game, my friend and the rest of our teammates tried to hold things together while I fixed things on my end. Unfortunately without any pressure in my lane the opposing jungler was able to focus on two lanes and my Vayne was left alone. I eventually reconnected and things started to look better but what little ground we'd managed to gain was taken back quickly by the ever-growing snowball that our enemy team had become. In the end we lost and the game ended... ...and I feel terrible over what happened. My team lost a ranked game because of me. Now I suppose we could have lost regardless but I'm certain my absence was the biggest hole in our sail. I wish there was some way to mitigate the damage I caused to my teammate's, as well as my friend's, ELO. Sadly nothing, outside of punishing me, can be done it seems. Are there no good options for situations like this? Will we always have people who suffer an LP loss as well as a rather dull game because of situations like this?

And for the record, I'm fine with being punished for leaving, which I was. I understand that the system is in place not to attack the accidents such as this but to catch the despicable people that leave intentionally.

Wow. If only everyone who ruined a ranked game was as understanding as you. Hopefully your leaverbuster ends soon.

The thing is, that almost every proposed option to help with people losing due to afk is that you get one or both of 2 issues:

  1. If you duo q and aren't winning, you just have 1 guy afk. because people can make multiple accounts, he could literally boost your account by making smurf and just leaving every game you might lose. Once your account would get into the desired ELO, you would then do the same for him.

  2. The other alternative is that if you were losing, people could potentially try to bully out their teammates in order to avoid losing LP.

I wish there was a mercy system: one that would make you lose less ELO if the enemy team outnumbers yours.

Most likely we will always have to deal w/ this sort of stuff. It's not a huge issue in the grand scheme of things (maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure more of my games are impacted by someone smurfing or someone trolling/raging and damaging the game than by 5v4 or 4v5), and there are few if any good solutions that could fix the problem.

Don't beat yourself up about it too much. It happens to everyone at some point. I've played since season 3 and I've definitely dc'd a decent number of times due to stupid stuff like power going out bc a branch fell or my dog running around the house and pulling the connection on the router. If you didn't do it knowing you would then no worries, if the people aren't tools they'll understand.

I really don't get why this game still randomly crashes: "You have been disconnected from the servers Pleasetryagain". The window doesn't even show up until you press Ctrl+Shift+Esc(opens task manager) then click on it again. And it is hard to tell the first time cuz the screen is just sorta stuck, and you can't tell whether or not you are crashed or not.
