Complexity Management
Competition is a valuable mechanism for sorting and ranking current strategies, but it also has caveats when it comes to the creation of the universe within which competition will take place.
If a sub-system presents competition with other sub-systems, then consider if the new one can replace the old one.
If it cannot do at least all the old system does then it is not a viable alternative, and should therefore be considered a step backwards.
