Riot needs to do something about ranked afk's. I've entered a series twice now and 2 out of four games there has been an afk with in the first ten minutes. They need to penalize more harshly for an afk and do something about getting a loss for it. Just an idea for riot: When a champ afk's, the match should end right there, but with everyone thats still in the game still earning exp for that part of the game and neither getting a win or loss for it. The person who afk's should lose exp for that game, get a loss and have an automatic 1 week ban or more.

I'm not sure this is the solution. I'd like to see more rewards for not going afk. Imagine gaining access to another tier of masteries or items etc. I think this could be where it would hurt players the most. This is along with bans from the game. Being stronger for playing fairly would make a big difference to player behaviour.

The issue I have with afk is that it shows a serious lack of respect for people's time. League is a time consuming game and so playing matches that aren't fair because someone decides they don't want to play halfway through, or they get behind and give up.

I think this is where parallels with teams sports are important. If you were on the soccer field or frisbee pitch, your team mates wouldn't allow you to simply walk off. They also wouldn't allow you to give up and stop running around or trying your hardest. This is symptomatic of the online environment where, given the anonymity, people behave differently than what they would face-to-face.

Completely agree. Just had not one but two afkers in a ranked placement game that didn't turn up at all, but it still counts as a loss for the three of us that did our best. Grrrrrrrrrrrr

I personally think what should happen is the game continues as normal but for the people who have an afk on there team do not lose points in ranked games so it does not affect them in any way other than time. People who are constantly going afk should get a bigger ban and people who dont afk for say 1/4 of a season get some sort of reward. Im fed up of playing ranked games and doing well to then have some fucker go afk

I would have to agree with this. It is extremely annoying when you're playing a ranked match and someone either never connects or just afk's later in the game. Everyone who has ever had an afk'er on they're team understand the frustration of being at a constant disadvantage and most of the time losing the game solely due to the number adv owned by the other team. I would love to play a game(s) that are considered fair in this aspect, that is if there is a afk'er then he/she should be penalized not the whole team.

The punishment for afk players needs to be more severe to discourage this type of behavior. Currently having an afk player on your team in ranked essentially guarantees a loss of LP unless the team extremely outplays the 5 man enemy team and wins the game. We all know having an afk player in a ranked game can negatively affect the team and thus takes away from the overall experience.

A Possible Solution: Combine player reports of afk with the system recognition of a disconnected player to potentially verify a players absence. Perhaps say 3 or more afk reports from a single game with a system recognized disconnected status and there you go...charge the afk with the LP loss and don't punish (or at least reduce the amount of LP lost) the team which is short a player.

The issue is two fold.

Riot doesn't care. It is now season 6. Think about that for a moment. This isn't a new game and the game isn't going through a period of rapid changes that would take priority. It's been around a long time and Riot continues to refuse to address this issue. They are clearly aware of it, they simply don't care.
The punished players do not care. The inherit issue with this game being free is that even if your account gets banned you haven't lost much. The solution then? We have to stop buying content until the issue is addressed. The only way we can make Riot care and fix the problem is to hit them in the wallet. It will never happen and that is why this game will continue to have this issue until it's final days. Just had 2/3 games with an afk, the only hope is that random chance will throw the next afk on the enemy team.
