Riot used exclusivity as a selling point when they sold these skins, stating they could be purchased for only a limited time and then never again. It was a stipulation of the transaction that if I bought this skin, Riot would bar it from the store forever. Now that I have bought said skin, Riot has re-released this skin back to the store. This is a blatant and intentional breach of contract.

Riot, a successful and professional business, has deliberately lied to me, a customer.

Riot reasons that since these skins are so rarely seen and so few people own them, they should be resold to give the newer players a chance to own them.

This is irrelevant. Riot, if you wanted to recirculate these at a later date, you should have made that a stipulation when you sold them, as you did for the Harrowing 2012 skins. When I bought Zombie Brand, I knew you could reintroduce the skin at a later date. It was a stipulation of the purchase and I agreed to it by buying the skin. When I bought Haunting Nocturne in 2011, I knew the skin would never reappear in the store because you told me the Harrowing 2011 skins would never make a reappearance.

Riot, you made the choice to never make a profit on these skins again when you told us you were removing them from the store, and you alone should face the consequences of your actions.

Players, many of you believe that you are entitled to a chance to buy these skins because you missed your opportunity or perhaps never had one because you only recently started playing the game. You are not. You were either not around when these skins were released or you passed them up. On either account, it is your fault. It is a tough pill to swallow, but have some self-accountability and be responsible for your own actions. Rammus is my favorite champion and I own all of his skins except for King Rammus. I was not playing when King Rammus was awarded, so I will never have it. And that's alright, because I do not deserve it. I missed my chance. I cursed myself for not picking up Definitely Not Blitzcrank when it was available, and again I missed my chance. But that's okay, because I have jumped on other opportunities Riot has presented to me. Other events have come around, and I have acquired other limited-time skins.

Riot: you are re-releasing skins you explicitly promised you would not back in the store. You are crookedly lying about a business transaction, and for that I will not purchase any of the Limited Edition skins when they are disclosed to the store. I will not support bad business, and I do not (nor does anyone else) deserve these skins.

Many have stated that we will be compensated. It is not enough and no amount will ever be enough. Talk of compensation is irrelevant because no amount of compensation will make Riot's decision honorable. Riot has still lied to us, no matter how much we are given in return.

Riot, you are better than this. You have always found new and innovative ways of making extreme amounts of money. This is not one of those ways. I will hold this against you. When you try to sell me something as promised, I will remember this. You have tarnished the most important thing you could offer a customer: your word.

Riot once said there were 40 Champions included in the League of Legends. Did they lie about that too? Or does lying involve intent to deceive?

If you want recognition of being the original skin owner, you're getting it. There's some debate to be had over whether they could give you a bit more (i.e. individual icons for each skin or something like that), but the unique recognition is still there.

If you feel your money was wasted when you purchased those skins... you're getting it.

If you feel like others should be denied the opportunity to have these skins simply because they weren't around (or didn't have the cash on hand) to click a purchase button on the client.... then you're acting like an entitled tool.

If you feel like Riot lied to you... have you ever said something, looked back on it, and decided that something else was a better decision?

If you feel like something else entirely, then let's chat. I'd like to pin down why people are actually upset about this.

A) Riot promised to increase the number of champions, and more importantly they delivered on that promise. It was always in the business model to constantly expand this game. Riot was not lying to us because they released more champions, they told us they would.

B) This is an entirely different topic. I do not want compensation. I do not want recognition. I want what I payed for.

C) Do you really think the amount we are getting back is the actual price of the skin? Do you really think that if you had a code for The Mighty Jax that it would only be worth 520RP? Does that seem fair to you?

D) Yes,they should be denied the opportunity to purchase the skins because Riot promised they would be denied that opportunity. I did not set the stipulations for the skin, Riot did. If Riot wanted to re-release these skins at a later date, such as the Harrowing 2012 skins, they should have made them Legacy. There is no difference between the two now.

E) Riot did lie to me. This is a fact. Whether or not Riot found a better decision is irrelevant. I thought that the Legacy skin tier was created to solve this problem for limited-time skins. Now I don't know what it's for.

F) I have already stated why I dislike their decision: it's terrible business practice. They have explicitly lied to the customer about the stipulations of a product.

A code or the skin itself? There's a difference here, in that one of them can legally be sold, and the other can't.

There aren't any actual reasons defending your or my side of this point. It's really an opinion thing, and I am of the opinion that imitations of original content in no way degrades the original content itself.

No. By the definition of lying, no. Unless Riot had their fingers crossed behind their back saying "hehehe we'll rerelease these in two years, suckers". Riot changed their mind, which is the mark of a progressive company.

...seriously, it's actually a pretty good business practice to re-release old content, especially if your consumer base has grown by a couple orders of magnitude. Riot's doing even better than that by not only preserving the exclusivity of the original owners through the loadscreen and icons, but also refunding the entire original purchase.

I agree with SpeedKat completely.

This is an excellent and perfect example of a good business action. They aren't the first company to do something like this, nor will they be the last. The amount of money they will make from this will be HUGE, since their player base has grown exponentially since all of these skins were originally released.

The skins are released "exclusively" to promote sales, but overall they are still about self expression, not pride. If you could choose to please the smaller, older players by keeping the skins unavailable, or to please the larger, newer players by giving them another chance to get these skins, I would hope that your decision would reflect some form of intelligent practicality.

I started playing League during the 2011 Harrowing. I had no idea that the skins were Limited Edition. I didn't buy them. I regret that horribly. Now I have another chance to get them, and I'm taking that chance. I also main Sona. I've dreamed of having her Silent Night skin ever since I discovered it. Now I can finally fulfill that dream.

If the only thing that Riot risks by re-releasing these skins is the pride and unjustified feelings of a few of the greedier, older players, then I don't think they have anything to worry about. Good day to you.

If you promise to release skins as exclusive and change the status quo, you have lied. You have no business offering the skin as exclusive because it obviously isn't. Setting the stipulations of a sale and sticking to it is the very definition of intelligent practicality.

You missed your chance and have no one to blame but yourself. Others should not have to give up their exclusivity because you missed your chance.

I am not greedy for expecting what I pay for. I am holding Riot accountable for their actions.

I don't remember if it was on this thread, or on a different one, but there is a difference between lying and changing your mind. They planned on the skins being Limited, they got a huge influx of players, they considered it best to re-release them. The best course of action changed over the course of a few years.

Also, as Riot stated in the announcement, skins are not about exclusivity, but about self-expression. If they were to follow this concept fully, every skin in the game would be released, permanently. Fortunately, they're not doing that. Be grateful.

In the end, Riot has full control of their own property, and can do what they want with it. There aren't enough reasons to not release the skins. I'm buying them. Millions of other people are buying them. You aren't. Millions of other people aren't. Can we get back to playing League of Legends yet?

This is readily available for purchase on Ebay and it is legal. This is Riot Singed and was given out. It is also a Limited Edition skin. It was sold in the store for 975RP and is worth $55 listed on its lowest price. Why is it so expensive? Exclusivity.

C) Riot told us other players could not purchase them after the original sale. This includes new players.

This is Riot's definition and stance on Limited Edition skins and Legacy skins. It's in black and white on the forums. There is no such thing as having your fingers crossed. They lied to us.

E) Disney re-releases titles to the newest medium and then it goes back in the vault. You can only buy Cinderella on Bluray. You paid for a skin that you can wear in-game, and have people recognize you for it. That skin is still there, people will still recognize you for it, and on top of all that you're getting the entire price refunded.

Yeah, that is a skin card. You can sell those. I mentioned that before. Tell me how people got these skin cards? Did they buy them from the riot store? Oh yeah, that's right. They got them for free at a convention.

Yes, Riot said that at one point. They also said that they've changed their decision. Have you ever changed your mind? Would you like to be called a liar for doing so?

They lied to us.

We went over this. Unless Riot's been snickering in a back alley feasting on the sadness of original skin owners, hatching this devious plan to remove all worth from their digital property (which, they probably wouldn't be giving you anything to make your skins STILL UNIQUE if they planned this all along), it's not lying. It's a change of stance.
