So is there anyway Riot could make enough profit to sanction something akin to a buy 2 get 1 free skin sale?

Disclaimer: Skin must be equal or higher value. Teemo skins are worth RP cost despite being valued significantly higher.

Woah, I'd go crazy with a sale like that, I'd probably buy BC Skarner, BC Cho'Gath and get Galaxy Rumble for the lulz.

Ehhhh, it's not on black friday but isn't there that super legacy sale a week or two after with a bunch of skins being 50% off (and going to the vault afterwards).
