Would like to hear some insights from rational seasoned players on the abuse of report function.

TAKE NOTE I understand that the decision to ban a certain player is from Riot themselves but right now I am addressing the automated punishments such as chat restriction etc. Please read through, thank you.

I admit that i was toxic in the past. That is why I always reflect whenever I got banned and take it upon myself that I should not have said those stuff. But now I have been very cautious, always thinking twice before I enter, I even change the way I phrase it BUT i got chat restriction again. I submitted a support ticket and the advice was to refrain from saying stuff that is considered "insult" "jerk" "dont say anything if there is nothing nice". Apparently, it is automated now and they cannot provide a chat log.

And if I may ask, did Riot set a standard for what is considered "insult" "jerk" "not anything nice"? Please do understand that although this maybe NA server but there are plenty of international players brought up in different culture. What one may find offensive at one's country does not mean some other people from another country find it offensive. I travel quite often and currently residing in Japan so i am pretty sure of this logic. Well unless of course, it's very very obvious that it is offensive in which I am pretty sure I did not cross that line since its always that one particular player who everyone dislike that report me or the team for telling him off.

Prior to this current punishment and after I got chat restricted and banned the previous time, players report me for 'toxic' only when I highlighted the problem of their mistake at that point. I swear I did not even use any vulgarities or words which define "toxic". I had 2 bans for that and got the chat log and told off by forum members so I know where to draw the line. So what is the point of a team based game if we do not critic on their repeated mistakes and just keep quiet? Accept a loss and lose LP/time because one refuse to listen and feel relieve because we get to report him? Heck, I even got reported just because I said I will report the troll(he feeds on purpose)and nothing else in that game so I assume the account will just record it as "behavior did not improve"? If this is the case, how can any players who were punished in the past get off the blacklist aside from keeping quiet? Is Riot and the community here encouraging this? I seriously want to know.

I am sincerely taking time to write this post because I wish to avoid this again. To me, I always believe that tribunal does not have a shallow definition of "toxic". Its not suppose to be a system for petty minded spoilt brats(I know you lots are out there camping this forum) to abuse it and get past toxic players who are trying to reform to get banned again and again. Usually these kinda players are the ones who aren't good at this game and dislike to be told off and report whoever who told them off. Unfortunately, there are tons of them in ranked play. Out of 10 rank matches, there is only 20% chances you will meet a team of mature individuals who apologize to one another and give constructive advice.

Which brings to me to my suggestion. I think Riot should dish out harsher punishment that will be executed as long as 2 games of more than 3 reports on cases such as intentional feeding and afk(not including D/C and Riot can read from the comments). I believe that this way players in rank especially will think twice about committing such acts that contribute to team loss 90% of the time. If they want to clamp down so hard on toxic, they should do so even more for intentional trolling because if you think about it, trolls are often the reason why toxic players who are reforming are trying so hard to avoid getting banned. Its like asking someone who is going through rehab to get rid of anger management, to keep calm and refrain from violence when he see a stranger beat up his best friend or hoping a lion does not bite someone who try to punch its' face. Of course, the player who was toxic should be banned as well so both will learn their lesson. I know I probably get flammed or sarcastic remarks for saying all this but I am trying to have a discussion here so I am really open ears to any rational replies. Do not spew sarcasm or petty remarks. Thank you very much.

I have been playing since season 1 and I have never been banned, warned, or anything like that. I think these new harsher punishments have helped A LOT to clean up this community. I haven't seen a troll in ages (in terms of games, I've been a bit inactive the past couple months) and people are nicer as well.

You may not think the things you say are that bad, but to me, even just one person being an asshole in chat can ruin a game. You can absolutely suggest things to other players, but two things:

  1. Be careful how you give advice, since some people are sensitive and you might set them off. I like to mention the team to avoid singling anyone out ("we need to build armor, riven is fed"). If I have to talk to a specific person I try as hard as I can to make it sound like a suggestion that would help the team rather than a nitpicking build comment ("we need you to tank mao, can you build more defense?" or "soraka can you sweep baron? mine's on cd")

  2. If someone is clearly not interested in your help, even if you're being nice and/or they're causing you to lose the game... just drop it. There's nothing you can do. If they're annoying you, mute them. If you stop responding to them early enough, they probably won't report you.

As for "trolls", I think toxic players tend to have a different definition of troll. If you find trolls in every game you play, for "intentional feeding" or whatever, try to tell yourself that not everyone is always playing at 100%. They just may genuinely not be paying attention. We've all accidentally clicked the minimap and walked right into the entire enemy team before. It just happens sometimes.

Well, I have never been punished on this game. What seems to work is that if I lash out as someone that deserves it I make sure to say a handful of pleasant remarks in subsequent matches. I don't actually believe that is was a "gg", or someone did a "great job"; it's more of a bookkeeping function.

Keep saying nice crap in your games. The system will show you're trending to the positive. Lyte and his goons can claim victory that you've reformed and you'll be out of danger of getting popped again.

In essence, it's all horseshit.
