How do People Know they are Reported?

I had a game where a certain player, lets call this player Bob, was kind of an asshole to the team but the team didn't really reply at all. In the post game lobby no one said anything to Bob either. However after one of us reported Bob he typed "dunno which one reported for neg attitude so I reported you all for it."

It seems like a flawed system if someone can see they were reported while still in lobby so then they can retaliate report. After doing some searching, it seem's Riot's official word on this is that there is no way someone can know while still in the post game lobby and that the person just "guessed" but this seems like a BS answer to me. Anyone know whats really going on? Is there a site or mod out there telling people they have been reported?

I heard from people that after so many reports you get a "You have been reported for ___". Don't think that's true and they could possibly just be mad and said that.

After the person reports you get a notification, as if like someone gifted you something, and it says "You were recently reported for (...), this kind of behavior isn't (...) with League of Legends."

After receiving a "spike" in reports (relative to the normal amount for the account), a pop-up message is sent to the account, as others have said.

Those messages do not appear after a single report, and do not appear in the same post-screen as the triggering report is issued.

All of which means this:

"Bob" was likely a fairly toxic player (or on a decently long tilt), and blamed your team for reports he received in recent games. The fact that one of you may have reported him had nothing to do with the message he received.

Ok, how come I have never gotten such a message then? I doubt no one has ever reported me. Furthermore, why is this message delivered while someone is still in the post game lobby giving them an opportunity to retaliate report? Why not wait till they exit lobby, or even better, delay it by a day or so?
