I just had the best League experience and my team lost :)
I am going to assault you with a wall of text, so I appreciate you hanging with me through this. TL:DR – Player had a bad game, an opponent gave me a mystery gift since I defended her in end of game chat.
I have been on a bit of bad streak this month when it comes to ranked. Constant losses made my not so shiny Silver II a depressing Silver IV. My match history will show the pretty soul crushing record as soon as the regular season ended. NBD, just have to get better, right?
Enter today's ranked game. Us: Yasuo, Katarina, Udyr, Caitlyn, and myself as Anivia support. Caitlyn and I had the honor of going against a Soraka/Vayne combo.
Typically, we all know how Caitlyn usually handles a Vayne. Shoot and scoot and just wait. The plan was a little stunning and walling from me and we'd handle her just fine. The problem arose when it was quite obvious our Caitlyn did not know how to play against new Soraka.
The zones were real.
A silence followed by snare instantly followed by wall stun spelled disaster for my demoralized ADC. This game got ugly and turned uglier. By the end our Caitlyn seemed so addled she just could not play effectively anymore. Getting caught, walking in very poorly determined directions.
The game ended and there we were with the typical end game chat. A few of our teammates started ripping Caitlyn into pieces. I should have saved the chat but it more or less went like this.
Enraged Teammate: Quit playing ranked cait. Me: No, Cait. Don't stop playing ranked. You just didn't seem to know how to deal with new Soraka. Her new zoning is quite fantastic. Just practice and try again. Opponent: Wow, honored.
And that was it. Or so I thought. Because after I closed the end game screen I was greeted with a mystery gift and friend request (not from the soraka) but from another person on that team. He quickly told me that the community needed more players like me.
I was stunned with this players generosity. I would consider myself quite a friendly player in general but this was completely unexpected. I don't even have those pretty little banners.
I just wanted to say that there are good players out there. And kindness plays off. Chances are if we are playing in silver we could all use kind words from now on.
My mystery player, and I hope soon to be Duo partner, shows me that this community isn't destined to toxicity and flaming. With a little kindness and support we can all be Champions. Thanks for reading.
