Mundo or....

Hey guys. Semi-new player to LoL here. I've been playing as Mundo for the past month or so, and I love how bulky the champion is, while still being able to deal damage. Finally able to scrape up 6300, I now have the option of buying any champion in the game. Some of my Veteran Friends said that there are many other characters that I would do better with than Mundo, such as Jax, Zac, Volibear, Kindred, etc. Can I have some help with deciding on which champion to purchase next with some reasons and builds? Thanks guys.

Volibear if you love how much healing there is on Mundo. Darius if you want to be hated. Zac... eh...

My friend told me Volibear is much more effective in team fights than Mundo is.

eh, voli imo is more disruptive in team fights, but mundo is a bigger threat due to how tanky he is and he probably does more dmg than voli.

I actually played with Nasus prior to playing with Mundo. I just hate how ineffective he is early game.

He's only ineffective for a brief window. By the time you get your hands on item 3078 you can basically destroy anyone. Just don't waste mana for anything but Q unless you have to do so to survive. If you utilize the lifesteal from the passive you should be able to make up for any health you lose while you farm. Once you have triforce you should be able to destroy almost anyone in your lane in two or three Qs.

Voli is Mundo with a bit more damage and a bit less tank. Zac trades Mundo's dps and reliability for better cc, teamfighting, and unreliability. Kindred is nothing like Mundo and I would recommend trying them on free week before getting them. Jax wouldn't be a bad pick because he isn't too expensive I believe, and has good dueling and carrying potential.

I would personally recommend Maokai for sustain, tankiness, and teamfighting

No one has ever mentioned Maokai to me before... How is it's level of difficulty compared to Mundo?

You know how with Mundo you have to land cleavers? That's more than Maokai requires. I like him, but he's pretty simplistic and easy to use.

Edit: It's worth noting he is similar to Mundo in that he is good against mixed damage teams. Maokai works best with 1 armor item, item 3065 , and then health and AP. His passive rewards him for building health and his ult is a percent damage reduction, making resistances less important.

What are the counters for Maokai? Can they be easily over come if stacked?

I haven't played him a lot top lane recently so my info is probably out of date. I personally wouldn't want to take him against Darius or anyone else who duels exceptionally well close range (Jax too), but Maokai can trade decently well even with them so you probably won't get destroyed immediately upon going into lane. Gnar and Fiora may both technically be counters (not sure) but Maokai has enough engage/disengage that he can pick his battles and outplay them.

Singed , just proxy him, he cant farm under tower very well, and unless the jungler can deal a lot of damage, he cant kill you, also look up Chimpso for guides on how to play him.

in mundos play style which is out-healing the damage while doing damage and been tanky are:

olaf trundle voli zack tahm (not much for healing but has a nasty shield and is tanky with CC) and garen

I was considering Trundle a while ago. Also, Jax stuck out to me.

Well Chogath Darius Nasus Olaf are also tanky champions who can deal a ton of damage, so I would try them, that and they are all top laners which you probably should main if you main Mundo.

Singed also does the job of run in the middle of the enemy team and cause chaos while being unkillable and doing a decent amount of damage that Mundo does.

You can play more then one champion at a time, so just play them and continue if you like them, and you don't have to ignore mundo.
