Goodbye for Now
Hi there, I'm just stopping by here to leave a few thoughts behind.
I'm DoomWeaverX, I have been a LoL player since mid-season 2 and can say that LoL has helped me make it through some of the toughest times of my life. However, I have to admit that this is no longer a video game I enjoy playing. I started asking myself why I felt this way and came up with a few things.

League of Legends has steadily moved their focus away from making a fun, friendly game towards making a competitive, skill-driven game. Essentially there is nothing wrong with this. For me, however, League was a place I could relax and wind down without worrying about the things in my life. Now, playing League feels like a chore, worrying about my MMR or my rank at all times. This is unhealthy for me, as I already have a life to worry about the rest of my day.

League of Legends has shown a steady decline in variety over the past few years. While I understand that E-Sports are a huge thing, taking away the things that gave you a player base to begin with is just bad resource management. After watching exciting features being taken away (Lore detail, old Twisted Treeline, Crystal Scar) and replaced with things that either enhanced Summoner's Rift or made other game modes more like Summoner's Rift, I no longer become excited to hear about new things in League. Because now, the chances are that this great new thing will just be something else to enhance professional level play, and do absolutely nothing for the casual community. Which brings me to my next point...

The casual aspect of League is gone. There was a time where I could log into League and wonder what I would be playing. Would it be a game of Dominion? Maybe a Custom of Catch the Teemo! Or what about some Ranked 3v3? Maybe I feel like Solo/Duo Queue today! Maybe I just want to play Teemo ADC. Now when I log in to League, all I'm able to ask myself is DO I FEEL LIKE PLAYING SUMMONER'S RIFT RIGHT NOW? More often than not, the answer is no, at which point I log right back out and go play another game. Yes, I'm aware that Riot has fun little game modes up their sleeves, but these are all temporary, and meant to bring people into their serious game with a little taste of fun, and that is unacceptable for me.

The lore. What can I say? I used to be amazed at the way Riot would tie all of their champions together with exciting new stories. Garen and Katarina running off together was the greatest cliffhanger of them all, only to find out it wasn't just a cliffhanger, it was a CANCEL. A cancel in lieu of the coming resource sucker known as E-Sports. Reading about how Swain took control of Noxus through his vile magic, only to never see anything come of this new rule. It left a hole in my League experience, one that is still there to this day. Even with this new "lore" that Riot has introduced, this soulless, pointless, cliche lore that makes an attempt to satisfy the fans but barely scratches the surface. I cannot say that I am satisfied with it, because I have SEEN Riot do better.
To wrap things up, I love League of Legends. My love for it, however, is also the reason I must leave it. I can't watch as the game that helped me through so much pain changes into a sports behemoth rather than be a tribute to its players.
I'll continue to follow this community, as there are some truly amazing artists here, but League as a game has passed me by, and I must say farewell for now.
GLHF and GG,
Doom
