Help with Sona

Hey all,

I'm still somewhat new to LoL (Been playing for a few months).

I started playing Sona a week ago (about 5 games under my belt now). Anywho, I grabbed a build off MobaFire, but was not so nicely informed by my team in my last game that my build was crap. I even think the rengar asked everyone to report me (Why is reporting for inexperience even an option?) Anyways, I don't want to get harassed for my damn build, so if someone would be so kind as to help a player out, I'd appreciate it,

Thanks!

P.S. I am playing her as support.

Add me if you want.

as for build guides: avoid mobafire. solomid is much better!

for build, i start item 3303 2item 2003 1item 2004 item 3340

then i rush item 2049 which, if you poke a lot, should be available at first back.

As you get item 2049 , you exchange item 3340 for item 3341 ! After that i build item 3165 .

depending on how well you manage your mana, you decide which part of item 3165 to build first, item 3114 for mana or item 3108 for more poke potential. After you finish item 3165 you should work on boots. depending on your play-style, item 3117 or item 3020. item 3158 are a good choice too but i value the mpen of item 3020 or the mobility of item 3117 over the CDR of the item 3158. You could go item 3100 now, but i usually don't do that much anymore. If the other team is itemizing MR, i go item 3135, if not i go item 3089. While you are squishy AF, your mobility through boots and your E should alow you to dash in and out, applying Q and Powerchord poke damages. With some AP, your heal potential is ridiculous. For Summoner spells i always get summoner 4 summoner 14. Sona is an aggressive poke support and when you see a low health enemy (preferably one of their carries), using summoner 4 Q, Powerchord and summoner 14 often secures a kill and leaves the other team wondering why a support does damages! If you feel that you need a tanky item item 3065 is a great choice. it finishes off your 40%cdr, increases your self healing by 20% and gives you health regen, Health and MR.

Last upgrade to item 2045 and also to item 3364

Dont forget that there are elixirs to chose from too: item 2139 and item 2138 or if you know you are going to hardcore push, especially with baron buff go item 2137

Dont forget that your powerchord can be applied to structures, so while you are auto-attacking towers, spam spells (3rd must be Q) to get that powerchord onto every 3rd auto-attack!

in lane advice, dont be scared! YOU are the bully. Your Q has quite a reach and favors Champions in range over minions. Every 3rd spell you have a Powerchord on your auto-attack, which does different things depending on which spell you cast last. Read up on that and procatice applying that. Using the powerchord correctly is the difference between a good sona and a buttonmasher. I do not take exhaust because your W activated Powerchord is an exhaust in itself on a lower cooldown!

Play her aggressively. it's more rewarding, more fun and has a higher impact!

item 3504 is a nice little item to buy on Sona as it procs on heals and shields, and combined with her Q buff on allies makes your carry quite nasty.

I even think the rengar asked everyone to report me (Why is reporting for inexperience even an option?)

Riot has said that "unskilled player" reports do not have a punishment associated to it. I'm not sure if they will lower your MMR so that you get matched with people of your skill level or if they are completely discarded (i.e. it's only there to weed out "bad" reports").

First thing you need to know is that there is no standard build when it comes to being a support. It all really depends on what your team needs to deal with what the enemy team has. For the most part, going item 3222 is a safe bet to protect your carry from crowd control effects and saving them from getting locked down.

I hope you don't mind but I looked up your match history and noticed you enchanted your boots and upgraded your sightstone before finishing a core item. You don't usually upgrade to Ruby Sightstone or enchant your boots until much later in the game with leftover gold with the exception of homeguards when you need to run to defend base.

My advice is to look at what your enemy team has and decide from there. Is the majority of their damage AP? item 3190 Is the majority of their damage AD? item 3143 or item 3110 Lots of crowd control? item 3222

I got baited into going the same build paths by many guides but I quickly learned that you have to build on the situation. This is particularly true for supports as we focus on defensive items.

Once you have enough gold for an offensive item, item 3100 tends to be the most popular item on Sona for its passive.

Practice build paths on bot games if you need to. If you want, you can add me and I'll help you develop some build paths with made up team comps.

Hope that helps and if someone, not so nicely, critiques your build, don't let it get to you; there are some of us who are here to help without the need of being mean.

I usually start either item 3303 or go for a item 1004 + item 2044 + item 2003 item 2004 depending on the match up, for mana I either go item 3070 because it helps with mana and gives an AP spike late game, item 3028 if there will be a lot of CC in team fights, or double item 3165 for an earlier spike in power. item 3100 is alright if you are in a position to poke safely, usually you want to sell item 3303 and get a item 3069 later into the game. item 2045 get this thing. item 3341 switch to this on your second back. item 3158 early can be useful as they offer easy CDR, otherwise item 3009 for the movespeed. item 3025 can give you some extra peel as well as defensive stats, item 3190 for heavy magic damage teams. item 3023 can also help with kiting and assist your team during duels, but as a late buy.

item 3504 Also, don't buy this thing

First thing, stop playing her. She has been nerfed so much that she sucks now. Second thing, stop playing her. Pick one of the supports that do everything she does and then some.

I've left you a friend request in case you would like to queue together and have someone teach you some things on the fly, as well as be a mentor. I've been playing Support and AD Carry since Season 1, so Sona is no stranger to me :3

Zuly and Zmuecat also raise some very good points, the only thing you need to do is learn when each item is appropriate, which comes with time.
