In-Client Ranked Game Spectating? Is It Gone For Good?

Back before Riot introduced the changes to the ranked system, there were always constantly running highly ranked games running that you had the option of watching. This was embedded into the client in the bottom right corner. Maybe I missed why they took these games out, but as of now I am still in the dark as to the reason these were removed. I miss these games. Maybe I'm the only one who does, because I haven't seen any other discussion on this, but I always thoroughly enjoyed watching the excellent and high level play in these games whenever I had downtime. I would really like to see these come back. I don't know if these games were just a feature of the old system, but if its possible i think they were entertaining and educating to watch for rookies like me.
