Why You Can't Login or Play to League of Legends

ReportObama4AFK··82 votes·8,665 views

*Disclaimer: I am not speaking on Riot's behalf. I am reporting this news alone.

It has come to my attention that League of Legends has been "DDos"d by a group known as "Poodlecorp"

(be aware by clicking link you are leaving Leagueoflegends.com ) https://twitter.com/PoodleCorp/status/747216102216785920

They are working in affiliation with "LizardSquad" and earlier this week they allegedly also breached RedMercy's youtube and twitter, unfortunately they cause his Twitter to be suspended.

They don't need your attention, please refrain from giving the trolls food, just take this information and be calm. Riot is working on it, and things will be back to normal shortly.

You can check to see the server status at ( status.leagueoflegends.com )

Just a bunch of man-children exerting the little bit of control they have on someone else. Usually turns out to be some 18 year old kid who's only sorry when walked out of their house by the police.

I feel sorry for those types of people. They really do appear to have some sort of mental illness regarding obsession. It's just not healthy for someone to put so much work into something that doesn't benefit them in anyway whatsoever.

I can't put my finger what the motives are behind these groups; but I have noted that first RedMercy was targeted, then they moved on to targeting the entire League of Legends brand. My guess, and it's just a guess, is that someone got butthurt they were banned or in a RedMercy youtube video losing and decided to take grieving to the next level.

Sad part is, it won't matter. They'll be forgotten, just like most of these kids that DDOS. There isn't a notoriety to it because no one cares. Eventually they will move on, Riot's servers will come up, games will continue and they will be forgotten. Pretty pathetic. Not only will they not be remembered, but they won't even be remembered for being a shithead.

haha something weird is going on and some posts are being duplicated!

Yes, I agree, they will be forgotten and I agree, no body cares about childish things like people wasting their own time to intentionally waste others' time.

Not everyone forgets or doesn't care.

There was a summoner who I encountered in game who after a few slip ups during a shit talking bout, revealed he was either in, attached to, working with, or somehow in the know with my old army unit (not being aware I was once a member of the unit in question).

He broke OPSEC/PERSEC over a game while claiming to be a well trained NCO with multiple earned accolades.

I contacted staff duty for the unit and emailed screenshots of in game chat to the sergeant major, and was informed a few days later by friends still enlisted, and it turns out that while he was indeed in the support battalion and well trained relative to most soldiers in the standard army, he had earned only mass given blanket accolades on a single deployment, and had broken numerous instances concerning OPSEC/PERSEC which some shithead troll could have referenced to cause problems for personnel within the unit.

He was disciplined by UCMJ with a company grade Article-15 and from what I hear it was HILARIOUS. He was placed on extra duty, temporarily lost his rank of SPC and was demoted to PFC, and lost half pay for 6 weeks.

I still gain IMMENSE satisfaction from that. And if any adult male ever admitted to DDOS'ing Riot in person... if it were within reasonable privacy, I would attempt to physically humiliate that person or if I had gained physical proof as well as a confession, I would report them to the authorities and hold them until arrival.

Some people go FAR out of their way for vigilante justice because we like that it that way.

That is a great story. I love reading that type of stuff! Glad he got what was coming to him!

Troll for Trump1 votes

Yes, but that could be the perspective of the DDOsers. They could think that they are in the right, or have been wronged by Riot/Redmercy in some way, and are doing this as part of their own "vigilante" thing.

Sorta like Anonymous.

MrPharmD1 votes

I've seen anyonymous make a shit ton of claims....but have done nothing lol.

Celeste Benal4 votes

Anonymous have done things. There is a reason why a bunch of them went to jail.

Vikíng1 votes

It's too bad Anonymous isn't an actual group.

"Anonymous originated in 2003 on the imageboard 4chan, representing the concept of many online and offline community users simultaneously existing as an anarchic, digitized global brain."

Troll for Trump1 votes

Doesn't matter.

Point is, they could think they are in the right/have been wronged etc.

Anonymous's ideology is just used to make it easier to understand.

Regrettably, article 15s are not permanent. And from the punishments listed, he only got a company-grade article 15. Getting busted from E-4 to E-3 means very little in the long run. He will get automatically promoted again when he has met the time-in-grade requirement, which for E-4 in the army is 6 months.

That being said, he is lucky to get away with just a company grade article 15. He could have been court-martialed for impersonating a Non-Commissioned Officer. And breaking opsec can get people killed.

We may not remember the "people" but we DO remember the groups. "LizardSquad" has not been forgotten. They DDOS'd too hard and too long (while being ignored by Riot) to be forgotten.

I forgot them until you mentioned them. Didn't one of them get arrested in the UK at the age of 18? Something like that.

redmercy wasnt first, watchmojo was

ReportObama4AFK3 votes

that's true but Watchmojo is unrelated to League of Legends so I figured I should leave it out

Dabrick011 votes

Yeah, IISuperwomanII got hit too. This is getting scary.

They said that the next channel that they hack they will close.

Mistress Madoka1 votes

DDOSing isn't Hacking.

Jari1 votes

But they did hack into those other accounts.

A DDoS only sends data. Sending data wouldn't have made Redmercy's videos names change, or post things on twitter and get suspended. A DDoS's only meaning is to send more data than the place can take. If he DDoS's redmercy himself, then it wouldn't effect his accounts, only his connection. If they DDoS'd YouTube itself, we'd all instantly see it, and name changes don't come out of it.

Mistress Madoka1 votes

Fair enough. I didn't see those tho because I don't watch RedMercy, I didn't even know a DDoS was happening untill after I was unable to log in to the game

Jari1 votes

They did get other accounts too, but they were not LoL related and were just likely trying to hide their intent to attack league itself. I believe Watchmojo and Boogie were two others?

Mistress Madoka1 votes

Yeah, I don't really watch them either. Still, It sucks that they got hacked. I wouldn't want that for anyone.

Except Isis or Westboro Baptist Church. Hack them all you want.

Honestly, these are the dumbest smart people I've ever seen. They are smart enough to be able to take down these types of servers, but not smart enough to realize if they could use their power for good they could get paid for what they are able to do. Instead, the just make minor inconveniences for normal people who did nothing wrong to them.

KlamzChowder2 votes

From what I've heard, it doesn't r take much effort to ddos

Xonra1 votes

I have 4 pcs and 2 laptops in my house and even I could DDoS pretty easily if I was a big enough moron to do it. It really is simple sadly, and yet it's annoying enough to cause a lot of issues because it's hard to stop without disrupting services for normal everyday users to an extent (more to it than that obviously but easiest way to say it without a much longer explanation).

DDOSing is easy.

But it's illegal so no one does it.

If I wanted to DDOS Riot right now I probably could. But I don't like jail.

morris11 votes

Then how haven't they gotten caught yet?

Jari3 votes

Generally a DDoS attack sends data from multiple sources, least the strong ones do. It makes it harder to tell who's doing it and who's just an unlucky victim who doesn't even know their IP is doing it.

insecure teenagers living in their parents basements. Lol. I hope they are proud of themselves because no one else on this planet is, even their own parents lol.

Bunch of fat asses who feel accomplished because they can ruin peoples fun. So essentially a bunch of people who got bullied and are now taking it out on the rest of us -_-

you just described the entire league of legends community.

Most of the entire league of legends community*

Poodlecorp could very well be doing this for money. Credit card information, Views, He could be contracted, or he could sell the accounts to people of similar morals.

The real question is why he is risking capture by attracting all this attention.
