New computer build.. need help

I need some tips on build, if i am spending to much money, or is there better part out there with better pricing? Oh and should i get the 4 core i7 or the 6core i7?

First off, what are you going to be playing?

i7's are way overpriced. they are enthusiast processors. they perform only marginally better than decent i5 processors, and even then mostly in theoretical applications. Either of those i7's would be for a 3+ gpu set-up.

That would have the same effective performance for single and dual-gpu gaming, and it is $100 less. It takes a LOT to make a processor the bottleneck atm, and it can easily be OC'd to at least 4.4ghz without touching the voltage. some can do 4.8 or better without voltage adjustments.

A 960 is a good card, but you can go to ebay and get a used r9 280x windforce for like $160, and it is a much faster card, and for significantly cheaper even.

that PSU is good, and will be reliable. But it doesn't give you many options for upgrade. If you get an 850 or 900 then you can dual-GPU at a later date and still be good, and for not much more money. Plus, you would be ready for your next system.

Your mobo is overpriced as well. Any particular reason for that board? There are plenty of z97 mobos out there for a better price, with the same features, and will have the exact same performance. Here are two that have reviews just as good, and have strong backing by hardware reviewers:

don't get the water-cooling lol. that's ridiculous for a single, low-end GPU setup. smh

As for the SSD, sure it will load a game faster. but it doesn't improve actual gameplay performance at all. I would recommend saving $80-$100 and getting a wd black or blue at 1-2 tb.

And as for the RAM... 16gb? really? what would you use that for? The most graphically-intensive games that exist run in just 2-3gb. 8 GB is plenty, and will be plenty for as long as your next rig is relevant. Go for it if you want, but you just won't see any added performance or versatility vs 8 gb.

I recommend using the money you saved by not doing the silly things, and use it to either get either a 970 or ebay for a pair or r9 280x windforces. You'll still be cheaper than your proposed system, and have FAR better performance.
