So... I want to start reading novels but I don't know where to begin. I went to the library and rented the first part of the Sherlock Holmes series (after looking around the library for about 5 minutes- I had a bus to catch). After doing that I heard that Sherlock Holmes is for kids? I'm 16 years old and I want to read something thought provoking. I want to learn interesting things from the novels that I read. Please, write the title of a book that seemed interesting to you (except books by Dan Brown).

Personally, I enjoyed the Dune series by Frank Herbert. It is rather old at this point, but it was one of the early novels in the sci-fi genre and it can be worth reading solely to see where some of the tropes originated (or were popularized).
