24hr Fundraising event -- building houses in Zambian village with World Challenge
Hi, my name is Murtaza. I am a student in Year 11 living in Dubai.
On the 26th of June, I will be going on a World Challenge expedition to Zambia. The trip involves multiple stages, including a trek and a limited amount of tourism, but the main part of the trip consist of a project in Mwandi village, which is two hours west of Livingstone near the southern border of Zambia.
Here, we will be building mud houses for struggling families such as the one shown in the picture. This project has been going on with World Challenge since 2010, after its leaders, Paula and Dan Van Zyl, were approached by a disabled grandfather of 5 asking for help with housing. By January 2011, 49 houses were built.
The total cost of the trip is AED 13 000 (GBP 2 500) which includes transport, food and living costs for us while we are there for 3 weeks. Any additional money I raise will go directly to school supplies including stationary and notebooks for children in the village, and maybe any other items we can purchase that would help them.
Part of the ethos of the trip is fundraising independently, so I am trying to use as many different ways of fundraising as possible. From the 24-hour livestream event that I will be hosting myself with a bunch of friends, I hope to raise GBP 500 to be able to go to Zambia and build houses for villagers. I would greatly appreciate your contribution.
The red-bull and KFC fueled livestream will start on Saturday at 12:00 UTC and last for the full 24 hours. It will be 90% league but I might hop on some other games too. I will have some donation incentives such as challenging myself to play a certain champion, build, or, if we are premade 5, a specific teamcomp. I can also try some other things out like playing one handed or in tandem mode, but it is up to you guys to decide what I do. You can leave me a message in the chat, here on the boards, or when you donate on GoFundMe to suggest something that would make the stream fun. This is my first streaming event so I am new to everything and am open to any suggestions you guys have for making it fun. In fact, if you have any good ideas, post them down here so I can implement them by Saturday.
This is not a charity event in the traditional sense, as you will only be giving your money directly to me rather than to a registered charity. Therefore, there is obviously a concern of whether your money will be well spent. However, I will post an update on July 15th showing pictures of what your contributions helped me do for the people of Mwandi. World Challenge itself is a reputable organization that organizes these trips in many regions of the world, and you can read more about them here.
