Blocking Players From Matching With You

Disclaimer - I think I saw something like this posted on the EU boards, but I added a couple ideas to avoid some of the potential negatives ...

I've been thinking that it might be a useful community tool to have the ability to block a player from being matched with you. If someone is on your block list, you are not matched with them.

Wait Times vs Quality While wait times would go up slightly as you add people to your block list, people that were frequently blocked would skyrocket. More importantly, the quality of the people you are matched with would go up (for whatever values you hold for quality). In addition, when matchmaking, the system could prioritize people that have been blocked less over people that have been blocked more.

Feedback On the wait time window when you queue it could display how many times you've been blocked, your expected wait time, and the expected wait time of someone with zero blocks for comparison. That way, people understand the impact their behavior has on their experience.

Limitations One of the criticisms about this posted in the EU was that it would be open to abuse ... people blocking millions of players so they could play only with diamond players. I don't consider that a likely scenario, but in the interest of disarming the counter-argument, we could impose these limitations:

• You have to have played a match with the person.
• You are limited to one block per match, selected from the people you just played with.
• The total number of blocks that you can have at one time is limited (50? 100?).
• If your block list is full and you block someone, the oldest block is deleted.
• I could also see there being a duration to blocks (180 days? 1 year). Sometimes people change their behaviors and I think it's reasonable to give them a second chance after 6 months or more.
