Allowing Interaction with Client while waiting in Low Priority Queue

So I've been given Low Priority Queue for a bit now and I've noticed something quite odd. Why does it prevent you from interacting at all with the client while waiting in queue?

My friends would occasionally start trying to chat to me, but the problem is that I can't reply to them. It's the same thing with game invites. I can't even decline it or accept it, much less tell them why I can't join them. Was it really necessary to do this?

Look Riot, I won't ask you to lift my punishment, but good God can you please remove this little feature? Just make the timer cover the actual queue time and then remove it when it's done.
