How do I convince a Bronze Tier player to believe he is bronze?

Dont even comment if you are going to say "you cant"

(My story just skip this paragraph if you want a shorter article)

I am gold 3 in league of legends. I have been playing for many years, and my knowlege and skill for the game has grown significantly. I remember in late season 3, being bronze and wondering why the match making system put me there while all my friends sat above me in silver. The next season i ended up in bronze V thinking "oh crap ive heard terrible things about this place im done" i continued to play and play. Finally after 6 months i got out of bronze V and into bronze IV (it was for real, not a lucky spree) i began to quickly climb out of bronze, realizing what I was doing wrong this whole time. Eventually I made it to silver before the season ended. Then continued climbing and so on until we reach now.

Why am I telling you this? Because I felt anger to someone going through this exact same thing. I was talking to someone on my bus because he was talking about league, and he told me he was bronze V and all the normal things a bronze would say, i.e. My teammates suck and anivia is a support. Then he told me "i got gold because of luck, that my provisionals gave me a high elo and i got more lp than i lost when i went 50/50"

Before i continue, I just want to say this is such a flawed mindset. He already knew i had over 400 games played, so this wasnt me getting placed in diamond because i got lucky. If i was really a skrub like him I would be bronze V after these 400 games.

Anyways everything I told him he claimed was wrong. So i asked him this very question: what is the difference between a diamond and a plat. I have friends in diamond and in high plat, that I have duo'd with so yes I actually know what some differences are not only between the groups, but also between me and them. He responded "they got carried" and when I asked by who, he responded, "Someone of a higher ranking, who got there in the early seasons before anyone else started playing.

Our arguement went on, until i eventually said "what about elo boosters? You pay them x amount of money and they get you from rank a to rank b." He again said they were pros and they again duo.

Throughout this whole conversation i noticed one common variable, he didnt understand why he was bronze. He believed anyone plat+ was carried, and got used to playing at that level so they became good. I on the other hand being mid gold, got lucky. For a while I was mad about him because he had called me "bad" that gold 3 is "no better than bronze 5" But what i soon realized is that I had a similar mindset.

When I was bronze I not only complained about teammates, but believed anyone gold+ just got lucky with good teammates. What I wonder now is how do you change that mindset? If you can manipulate it in such a way to make the person realize what a gold is doing differently than a bronze, they will not complaining and eventually climb out.

So, How do you change a bronze tier player to believe that he is bronze?

I'm not going to say you can't convince him, but first you have to convince him to have a conversation with you. One of the most sound things I have ever heard was when a professor said "you can't argue ideology with someone, the things we are discussing in class are research (grad school) and theories, but they aren't really anything you can talk with most people about regarding this issue because most people only care about this because of ideology and you can't change an emotional belief with logic."

The kid is protecting his ego because it is not something he can deal with right now to admit he is bronze skill. If he is having a conversation that is only about justifying his feeling that he shouldn't be there, then no amount of evidence or logic will change. I'd suggest to him that because he wants to hold the belief that he doesn't belong in bronze he will intentionally ignore logic that in any other area he would accept, because it threatens his ideology that he isn't a weak player. He probably won't accept it, but if he can look at that and question himself about if he being unreasonable you might be able to change his mind.

PS part of it's context. If you're just having a "I used to suck like you and now I got better, you still suck haha" conversation of course he won't respond bc you need to stop being a dick, whereas if you're talking to him about "man I used to be stuck in the same boat of really struggling w/ how to improve, maybe I could tell you about how I got better and you might find some of the same stuff useful" then there's a reason to have the conversation and you might change his mind. Either way good luck, and remember, don't be a prick about it; it's just a video game.

1 v 1 when it comes to 1 v 1 no one is there to carry you it's just skill vs skill make sure it's a 1 v 1 with both you guys using the same champions and that's when they know or you can be like me and accept the fact that you just need to get better at the game im still stuck in silver but that's mostly because i keep playing zed thinking i can make some pro plays (I can do a few every once in a while but i can't do it consistently maybe like 1 pro play comes out of every 4 games i play on zed)

idk its pretty hard. Im actually bronze 3, Ive understood why im bronze. Im somewhat toxic and have gotten a suspension in the past. I think ive improved on not talking much in game. I Also started in bronze 5 and am slowly making my way out. But ya its pretty hard for people to just admit they are doing something wrong.

EDIT I also never really bought wards. During my suspension I started doing it more and it helped a lot.

I would show him some of Gbay99's videos.

I can't really say whether or not that will change his mindset. I'd had the fact that you deserve your elo drilled into my brain before I even knew what elo was. I always believed them.

I'd say the biggest point where it all sunk in though was watching the old video of C9 Hai play TF in Bronze. Seeing how much control he had in the lane over a champion that supposedly countered him and just being amazed at how much cs he got really made it sink in for me that I was not good enough.

Why not just play him or with him and show him that's usually the best way to convince someone.

this is the only season i started playing ranked, and i have been in bronze 5, but after i set my mind to it and played to win i started wining game after game, but sometimes i loose the promos, now i am on a loosing streak, and i found out its all in my head, cus i got the mechanical skill to be gold, but i sometimes get too tired to care that much, os its sorta hard.

Good advice here. The thing is from my standpoint is why do you feel the need to convince this person of anything ?

Are you 2 friends, or are you sick of hearing the same old stuff all the time ? 2 different things here, with 2 different ways to deal with this...anyway good luck to you :)

*You don't

tbh, I'd start asking him questions about detailed stats on cooldowns and timers and game theory and shit, and when his answers are "I don't know" just explain to him that the fact that he doesn't know these things is the reason he is in the league he is. Giving the examples before telling him he's bronze for a reason will likely make him more likely to understand the difference between where he is and where you are.
