League isn't fun anymore

Anyone else feel the same way? I really only play this game because I have friends that do, and I've invested a good chunk of money into it over the years. Most games are filled with someone who's toxic or refuses to work with the team, and even victories aren't that fulfilling anymore. I can't stand to play solo queue, I was fed up with it at the end of season 3. I've played my placements and a match after I start to decay, but that's all the ranked solo queue I do anymore. Toxic matches are too common a frequency there, and it made me wonder: if this game pisses me off just as much as it brings me joy, then why on earth do I play it? Hence, I realized that it's just not that much fun anymore.

It's not just the community that's bumming me out, either. I feel that content production has drastically slowed on all fronts, and it's been getting this way more and more. Champ reworks are often seemingly pointless and leave champions with the same issues they had before, or just make us wonder why so many resources were devoted to them in the first place (note: I'm not against reworks, I think they can be a great thing. But there have been a good number of them that were rather....odd). I feel that most of Riot's energy is going into the competitive scene, and all of their adjustments are based around that. That may be a bit of an exaggeration of course, but hopefully you get my point.

Anyways, just venting.

Sounds like you need a break from Lol

I was actually thinking of coming back; I hung out with someone while he played his 10 preliminary ranked matches and observed WAY less toxicity than there used to be. Props to Tribunal! Banning the egotistical/whiny/caustic used to help me dissolve the all-consuming fury a little.

Of course...you still get people with extremely poor judgment, but it IS a game. A team-based game. Some of that just comes with the territory. There aren't a lot of hobbies that come frustration-free right out of the box.

If League isn't fun anymore, try to remember why it was in the first place. If you can't recreate that, I'd take a long break, maybe come back a season or two later.

We all hit that focal point, but league on general, as it gets more popular, we will see more cancerous new fags within games. The best way to deal with it, is just simply avoid them. I recommend a break though for you, don't play till S5 starts and you will be relived.

League is pretty much the only game I enjoy these days, there's also a mute button for a reason ^_^

One of the biggest problems is people being too meta anal and people being too Flash is God, and tier lists are the most toxic crap because people are like if you do not pick champions from this guy's tier list you are a troll--- people and Riot (i missed old Riot which was against meta's) need to not stick to a set meta, Flash needs to be removed, and if there is a way to punish tier list creators that should happen even if it involves fining them, sites need to not grant win ratios of champions that should be information that only Riot should have access to; this is to prevent people from only picking less than 20% of champions and allow for 100% of champions to get played, the obvious 1-3 champions out of 121 may not get played those few champions would be high on rework lists

I have to agree with the OP to an extent. The players have become so toxic and display such unsportsmanlike conduct, I oft find myself reporting at least 1 player almost every game, even after a win. Perhaps frustration from the poor matchmaking system has made me cynical.

Why I quit. To post my response to a thread about the lag, disconnection and reconnection issues thread on Help & Support.

I honestly hate to sound defeatist but this killed it for me. League has been my first and only MOBA. I've played other multiplayer games since I was a kid, in over twenty years of gaming I've never got a reprimand, ban,etc nada. I'm super into Egypt and I tend to like a lot of "minion" champs so I was super excited about Azir. Started out well with three games...then the 5 games in a row of trolls. Not only NOT AFK during those and earlier games but making damn sure I can stay to report a few people. I say to myself, surely if I go into ranked that wont happen a sixth time in a row? Nope, trolled again. Stayed in game until nexus went...boom suspends. No Leaverbuster warnings, no previous afks, nothing. Ended up being the last straw for me. I want to have fun and I don't want to feel like I'm a hostage to abusive people. But well..League just isn't fun anymore and these lag, disconnection issues( like the double ip weekend situation), and customer service issues have killed it for me. Good luck to the rest of you.

While trolls and this awful player base were a big factor. Perhaps the biggest factor was Riot itself. It's customer service is awful and I've never seen a game company send me more generic responses.

Honestly, I feel like League is at it's prime. I've been playing since Season 1, and this game keeps getting better and better.

And for all those toxic players, sure, players can be pretty bad, we've all had those games where people are toxic as heck. But you know what? I just think, man.. They must really have no lives if they have nothing better to do but troll. And if they're raging, I just think, man... If they're raging at a video game, imagine what they're like in real life... oofta, anger problems much. So yeah, toxic people are bad, but you're good. Don't stoop to their level, if everyone tried to be nice and push through the toxic players, just imagine how our community would be like? Being nice, and pushing through, is a heck of a lot easier than quitting. Personally, I was a pretty toxic player in Seasons 1-2, but I started meeting a lot of nice players, and it really changed me, a toxic player one day, can be one of the nicest people you'll ever meet the next.

And for content production? I know it may seem slower(And I will admit, it definitely does), but if you compare a new champion from season 1/2, you can really see the difference between the seasons. Riot has done a remarkable job, now they're adding in so many little things, but each one enhances the champion :D Like for instance, now, they're adding in different running animations, as well as recall animations, and they're having characters say certain lines when buying certain items(Braum when buying Face of the mountain or sightstone), as well as multiple taunts, now it's like 4 taunts for just the joke compared to the 1-2 it was before. As well, riot is coming out with minigames! (Look how popular Urf was) Riot has also come out with many many more skins with tons of special effects. Riot also came out with Teambuilder and has polished it ever since, as well as these boards that we're all commenting on. Riot has a separate group just for the boards, just to talk to players. And riot hears the players (cough cough Void fizz), riot has done so much this year, they came out with a whole new animation and warriors(I love Imagine Dragons, and League, it was THE perfect mix. hehe)! They're constantly working on fixing items as well as fixing champions. (I know some of the reworks are silly, I'm still quite sad about the Cassiopeia rework- Rip Cassiopeia-) But many of the reworks have turned out very well, and they're constantly doing model updates on characters( Twitch, Karthus, etc...) Riot has even updated the client look and match history! As well, Riot is trying to make the client sustain itself, they're trying to come out with a version of Pando Media and I think they're even trying to get rid of DirectX. Riot has done many many things this season, they're remaking summoners rift(which is helping old toasters run the game just a tad bit better) And they're rewriting the story, and I'm sure there's many many things I failed to mention, but this paragraph is already way to lengthy as it is lmao...

As for people complaining about the lag, it's not riot's fault, people are intentionally trying to make the servers go offline. And even when they do, Riot still hands out compensation with Loss Prevented and sometimes even ip Boosts.

Personally, the reason I like this game so much, is because I love to make awesome plays, outplaying your enemy, is absolutely awesome, it's amazing thinking that I outsmarted another person, and when I get fed, people know they can count on me to do damage. And juking people as well, is quite funny I must say :p Annnd I like to play Alistar support, and whenever someone tries to take my bush, I just headbutt them and say in chat "DENIED." hehe. As well, you know you can always get better with said characters and try out new builds and runes.

My thoughts, anyways.

The 17 champions every year, man those were big times

Deep Terror Nami9/20/2014, 11:54:26 AM1 votes

People suck. Play some 1 player games to avoid them, it's the only way. If not, just don't play long enough that you turn into the toxic trolls you hate. You might also put some effort into forming a 5v5 or 3v3 team that communicates through VoIP for competitive play; this is really the best way to avoid trolls (and keep playing also).

Well I do feel the same way in a sens. I mean, i can't remember my last game that i enjoyed and felt awesome after it, even if i lost or win it. In every game there need's to be some player's that don't really care about the game, and what it stand for. They play to have fun, they don't care and so on.While i do play this game for fun i want to become better at it and go higher. I don't know, this game has become so popular that you can't do anything about this problems.
