Honoring System Is... Meh.
Note: I used a url shortener to make things look more clean. Don't worry, they're not viruses. Note: I get off topic at some point.
The honoring system was a good thing back when it was first implemented into the League of Legends system. When someone had a banner, you knew when you were going to play with that person, or against someone, you were going to have a fun time. However, it has turned into a youtuber honoring system or an honoring generator if you queued up with a bunch of friends.
Lately, no matter how much I try to pull my team together, I just get flamed or nobody responds. Out of all of my 500 games or so this season, I've flamed little but I'm pretty sure I got reported every time I did. Roughly 95% of my games, I tried to pull my team together (or even resolve some discord from the enemy team) and I've rarely received an honor. Some hell hole of shiny bronze :/ (Gold) Yes, I'm an attention whore in some sort of way, but I want to see how much of a difference I've made with at least one honor in a game I pulled my team together.
There was this one really cool person though, who added me as a friend a few weeks ago. Early game, this summoner went 0 and 7 at one point (I think) as
while I was playing
. Mid game, he was just starting to farm a lot and bashing himself for doing bad. But, I told him to keep doing what he was doing until he hit his item power spike. I helped him and pulled the team together (which was actually pretty easy as he was in a trio queue) to help the
as we started team fighting more. We pulled ahead as things looked grim and actually won the game. At the end of the game, this summoner said that people like me are rare (lmao) and was glad I didn't flame him. He even went so far as to gift me a mystery skin and got Redeemed
. Here's the end stats. http://goo.gl/GqQRPr
In the end, you don't have to go as far as gifting a skin. Just receiving an honor knowing that I was someone fun and honorable for my team or the enemy to play with is good enough for me. It lets me know how I'm acting in-game is a pleasurable experience for others. Stated earlier, not much people use the honoring system. They either say gg, nothing, or flame others. Then move on to the next game.
What would also be helpful to me and maybe some others is to implement a dishonor (Now that I look back at this paragraph, people can abuse this... But whatever. Keeping this in). On top of the report system, it would help me know if I was being a burden to others when I receive a "dishonor". I can then look back to what I did wrong or said wrong and change my ways accordingly.
I've also been playing league for a long time and accumulated a fair amount of honor back in the day ,and, little by little now. http://goo.gl/F8c1pd . So, how does one earn a crest/banner? Is it based on how many honors receive or is it based on how many honors you receive in correlation to games played?
End note: In my lifetime of playing league, I've played over 4k games or so? Back then I was a flamer and a sore loser, but I've adapted now that I'm more mature. I play every role pretty much the same amount and developed a carefree attitude in games I play (meaning I don't care about the outcome win/loss. I just play the game and try to help others.). I was bronze at the beginning and I must say, the people there are pretty nice. Well, at least the bronzies back when I was still at the tier. I was silver for a while and that tier was full of tryhards who are... pretty decent in manners. I got to Gold V after staying in silver before the season ended. Somehow, at the next season I practically skipped gold after a 17 win streak and stayed in Platinum for a long time. The people in Plat treated me nice as long as I didn't go 0/5 or something similar. Near the end of the season I got to Platinum 1 with two wins and lost three games in a row after I got feeders and leavers. I was pretty tilted and ended the season in Platinum 2. Because of that really tilting experience, I'm now a carefree gamer who's sitting in "Shiny Bronze" playing whatever role given from "fill" who is farming honor points. Which.. is really slow due to lack of participation in the honor system.
