Around 3 years ago, Riot Games made the decision to indefinitely sponsor players with RP-prized online tournaments. This was a wonderful opportunity for the players that allowed them to be able to foster healthy and friendly communities for people to meet and play League of Legends together. League of Legends online tournaments also offer the average player the opportunity to test their abilities against other people without having to worry about traveling.

Since making this decision, Riot has halved the RP prize pools, resulting in lower player turnout as well as fewer active members in the communities surrounding these tournaments.

Riot has now released a statement announcing the discontinuation of the RP-prized online tournament support, which you can read here. The thread has received a large amount of negative feedback consisting of hundreds of down-votes and comments showing severe disapproval by all sorts of players.

Riot Game's reasoning for this decision lacks a sufficient explanation and comes as a shock to many of the communities involved.

This is a list of just some of the communities that will be affected by this change:

Imperial Gaming

Fyre Gaming

Hydral

High Koalaty Gaming

Galactic Gaming

Absolute Gaming

Victorious Gaming

NXGamers

Evolution Gaming

Full Skill Gaming

Melee Strike Gaming

  • Yes we know there are more than likely other servers out there, and we need your help to let your player base know help! Ending online tournaments would being ending so many others things that go along with being a league of legends player!

Taking away these tournaments from players who use them is a bad idea. Yes Fyre Gaming hosts these tournament, but this is not a a host that I say this. So many people come to these events to get to know other people and have a low stress tournament environment, where they get to experience a style of game play that they otherwise would not have access to. Not all players live in major cities where they can access LAN events. Not all players can travel the 100's of miles to participate in these events, some have real life commitments, jobs, families, school, children and do not have the ability to go to a major city to participate in a LAN event. The online communities that offer these events and take the time to host them are a place where the community can come together and enjoy the game, in a safe and dependable environment. These communities are more then just players who come for tournaments, they are living breathing entities that grow together and fail together. Real friendships, relationships and networking are done in these communities. The people who host these events, do so out pf their own free time and because they want to see the community grow! We advertise for your games, we get new players that have never played the game, we help new players grow. The online tournament community not only promotes the game but also defends the idea and points of the summoners code to often the hatred and detriment of themselves. Taking this away from the NA servers will not promote LAN events, it will only serve to diminish the sense of community that is formed at the online events, and the places that host them. Please think long and hard before you remove this vital piece of the League of Legends community.

This Causes a deformation of community gaming. This is absolutely against what riot has been building for in the recent months. They are recently encouraging players to que up in their new "Dynamic Que" And giving incentives such as the chance of receiving a hextech box which was recently added to the game. This is a good idea in concept but ending prizing for online tournaments inevitably drives players away from a community gathering causing players who cant directly spend money out of their wallet to purchase skins or other items in the games is thus defeating the purpose of a free to play model.

I dont think this is a good idea in the slightest. i dont have time to go to LAN tourneys because i have school and i dont have money to buy rp. this is a good way for me to earn my skins and also develop many friendships! i dont think that getting rid of the rp is a good idea. you guys already halved the prizes and now you just wanna get rid of them? its really upsetting to be honest and this is the only way i can even get any rp at this rate. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-the-teamspeak-servers sign this petition please!! we need riot to understand that we grow as a community together <3!!

So I have only played league since the beginning of last year and I play in tourneys a lot because I don't have the money to buy things on league . With these tourney's I have been able to find friends and socialize with them and know I am with a TeamSpeak server because of tourneys and finding new friends. So if you guys can please bump and upvote so that we can keep these tournaments and to stay sponsored by riot. I know there's a lot of people out there that are like me and play in these tournaments. They're people like you and me that can't afford skins so we play in these so we can be like the other people and can be cool like the people that can afford then . Look tom bought a new skin with money because he can spend a lot of money on league of legends. see so other things people can do to be like the people that have money. ~IMP LEGACY

Here, to speak my mind about community hosted events. People every day, hop on league of legends to particapate in these tournements because they enjoy some free RP, and you guys get what, about 624 million each year. Just from people in NA, and you don't have the common courtesy to atleast give some back to the people that enjoy your game. The 1 community group i'd like to mention is Hydral, there's about 14 teams, each day, (70 people) that get together, EACH DAY. To come together and particepate in a friendly, none toxic community event, hosted by none other #RABII. >#Rabii for Riot Admin.< They like to host events not because it's their job, but because they enjoy it. If you take away Riot Funded Community Events. You'd be making us 36% Na Community to dynamic que, or solo q, to be placed with bronzie's to just go and be toxic again. Me myself, turn to this tournement every day to relieve stress, and toxicity everyday. To maybe even get some RP, Please consider keeping Riot Community NA Funded Events. Not for only yourselves, but for the NA Community, Bronze Riven Main, Signing off.

I as a tournament orgnaizer for many years on and off think this is wrong and we all need to band together to support this cause, it not only helps teamspeaks grow but the league community as whole. It boosts player base by having people who dont play league regularly come and play with friends and with new people and it keeps them coming back and playing. Not only does it do this it helps keep dynamic queue flowing, with groups of people who meet and play in these tournaments in 3's or 2's it helps make the games start faster and be more fun. This all adds up to make these tournaments a benifical part of league of legends, as well as growing friendship groups and improving the game, the move to live events is great but this punishment to online events is just uncalled for we went through one nerf a year ago and took it on the chin kept fighting and now Riots punishing the na platform by just removing it.

If you can support us and this petition it would be great and hopefully we can do something to stop this change.

Watch a 3rd company, create an artificial tournament bracket. That will host events/prizes at the cost of a membership. Only a matter of time before that takes off and lol becomes a bowling league championship.

So many valid points here, Just want to re add to this. LoL communities as a whole have taken hits just because we uphold the summoners code. We have taken hits to the events when riot cut the event prizing last year, shutting down over half the communities overnight. Thats what, estimated, 10 communities, 40 player min to qualify, thats say 400 players daily, takes about 4-6 hours to do an event, thats 1600-2400 hours of league daily! If you take this away, you will lose players, lose hours of activity, basic players will have no outlet other then "Be a Pro" or "Live" events.

How i feel after reading their statement is that they are just greedy. All they want is money, sure they didn't think about that earlier in the game when no one played it, but now they have one of the most played games. So they just want to take advantage and they made this tourney to give back the money we gave them and make a friendly community and a relief from ranked and to play without worrying about lp loss or being raged at (very little) and meeting some new friends. Thats all i got to say :P [slayer-jinx-catface]
