Potential Scam?

A friend in League of Legends sent me a link to a website that claimed if you sent the link to (x)number of friends and get a point for each that clicked the link. The points could then be used to redeem a Riot Point Card. I do not think this is from riot but I am not sure and I don't think it would be a good idea to add the link to this board, but the url included "Riotpromotions.com". Can somebody please confirm if this is a scam or not, and if it is what should be done to prevent any bad stuff.
